Yeah I know, I'm not technically a racer like Fahad. But we all have to eat. I myself love to cook, and I love to try new things. So here is my strange request of all my WRF peeps world-wide:D.

I want to know your recipes. Your favorites, the stuff you make all the time (comfort food), the stuff your mom made you, etc., etc. All this talk of apple sauce, Swedish meat balls (yes, I want your recipe DB), and fermented fish with onions and potato on thin bread makes me awfully hungry;).

Post at will!

A very interesting topic for discussion . Like you, and like many racers, I love food. I'm particularly fond of Swiss Fondue (melted cheese) and Swiss 'Bratwurst' (sausage) with Roesti (a special type of fried potato).

Great, now I'm hungry

Well I get the fondue and bratwurst part (which I love) but how do you prepare Roesti? Gimme gimme:p. I'm drooling right now, and I just ate:lol:.

but how do you prepare Roesti? Gimme gimme:p.

Well as in any dish you have slight variations, but this is how I do it (when there's time :p). You first take a set of potatoes (I guess 2 if you're alone) and boil them. Take into consideration that they are still going to be shred and friend, so it's a good idea to take them out earlier than usual.

Next you'll throw them into cold water  . Then shred them nicely (not too thin though as they will otherwise become mashed). Now you have a pile of what looks like thick sliced spaghetti mozzarella cheese . You then prepare a pan by putting in a piece of butter and let it melt as to cover the entire surface.

The tricky part comes now. Put the 'Roesti' in the pan, but while you are doing so, keep pushing it together from the outside to form a circle. Keep 'sprinkling' the potatoes over this now confined area and give it a few soft 'pats' on top. Then you let it fry for a bit, and when you see that it's starting to get a gold / light brown color, you flip the 'Roesti' circle. Pretty simple, pretty tasty.

LOL, I hope it makes sense  :)

Ohhhh! You mean 'Hash browns'. Well that's what we call them. And I love them with drizzled egg yolk or holandaise sauce. Yumm.

Anythng else?

Well, I am not going to talk about cooking and recipes, but as long as we are on the subject of food and racers, I thought I share my diet and my weird situation.

I've been on a 3000 calories / day diet for long time and I only weigh 50 KG, my height is 172 CM. Here is my diet plan:

I wake up at 7:00 AM.
I have a breakfast at 7:30 AM, which includes black coffee, orange juice, butter, cheese, jam, peanut butter and plenty of bread (change the type every three days). Total calories: 500
At 10:30 AM, I have cereal bars or cereals with milk. Total calories: 300
At 12:30 PM, a cooked meal with orange, apple juice, or Coke. Total calories: 500
At 3:30 PM, a sandwich, croissant (chicken, turkey, cheese or butter) or cereal bars. Total calories: 300
At 6:30 PM, the main meal of the day. Total calories: 1000
At 9:30 PM a sandwich or croissant (chicken, turkey, cheese or butter). Total calories: 300
At 10:30 PM, I go to sleep.

Total Calories Per day is 2,900.

So this is an approximate calculation of my daily intake which is around 3,000 calories per day, why I am 172 CM tall and only weigh 50 KG??

BTW on racing weekends I eat a lot of those huge protein and calories bars, 500 calories each or something like that.

PS: I haven’t worked out for over three months, but I run everyday for a mile or so. I don’t drink and don’t smoke.

That's a very nutritious diet you have! I should follow your example

You probably need to work out a bit to translate the intake (particularly proteins) into actual muscle. With 50 kg at your height, you don't have to worry about becoming too muscular at the moment. At the same time, it will help your endurance a lot, especially as you may move up to other series. There the additional strength that you will be able to generate will make cornering at high speed easier :)

It sounds like you have a very active metabolism like myself, Fahad. Not to mention, on top of that you are very active and still young.

I can eat and eat but barely put on any weight unless I REALLY work at it. I gain and lose roughly 2 to 2.5 kilos a day, everyday. Depending on my work schedule. I'm only 175cm and average 74 kilos. I did work out when I was in my early twenties but lost the time for it. My line of work kept me from losing the muscle mass and tone for the most part (I'm hardly what you would call buff though:lol:).

I found swimming to be the greatest exercise, incorporating strength and stamina, and not so hard on the rest of the body. Protein is fine and necessary for developing muscle, but you need those carbs for fuel. Not enough carbs and your body will start to feed on the protien in your muscles instead, losing muscle mass. I in no way claim to be a nutritionist, it's just what worked for me. Every hockey player I've ever known's pre-game meal? Chicken and pasta. The running joke from the fat-so's at work is that I have a tape-worm:lol:.

So true! I've had chicken pasta before every game for at least the last 2 years.

I'm about 180 cm (I had to use a metric conversion chart becuase I only know that I'm 5'11) and 73 kg's. But I have to start going to the gym again soon, the only exercise I get these days is the bicycle ride to and from work.

And because I work in a gas station/convenience store my work meal usually consists of Pepsi, chips, and a candy bar. Not exactly the healthiest meal I've ever eaten.

Well, I haven't made meatballs since what seems like forever but I'll try and dig out an old recipe. :)

In the mean time you can try and get your hands on the lingonberry jam that goes with it. :D

I like heatly food like Taco Bell and Pizza. Oh and Hot wings from Wing Stop. MmmmMMmmm. I mean you can't get more authentic than Taco Bell. No but seriously if I can't microwave it, I can't really cook it. Hehehe. Might be why I'm 250lbs right now. I think I'm gonna go cry now. I miss being 184lbs. Back then I was just out of basic training for the ARMY and I was in great shape. I'm going to steal all your cooking tips and see what happens. Hehehehe:D

Hahahahaha!! Ok I can BBQ, and I can kind of cook things in the pan. Hamburger Helper is big in my house as is spaghetti. Anything I can toss in the oven and bake at x degrees for x minutes. Other than that I don't get too much into it. The GF cooks some good pork chops in sauerkraut.

If you got's the 'Twig and Berries' ('cause the word p***s won't show up:lol:), I think it's in our manly DNA. I don't know any guy who can't BBQ (ok, maybe there's that ONE guy:rolleyes:), and he won't let any female go anywhere near it (the BBQ that is).

Jenn (the better half) can't cook. She never has. I cook everything that isn't take out, which is only a couple nights a week. That makes me 'King Shit of Turdsville'. Plus I do enjoy it, and the challenge of new food I've never tried.

Here's one of my weekend brunch favorites, and it's easy. Go easy Tex, I don't want you to have a heart attack:lol:

-4 slices of 1/4 inch thick pork belly
-1 egg with extra large yolk
-1 Toasted Kaiser bun
- Some chipotle mayo

Fry the pork belly 'till crisp. Fry egg 'till soft. Put mayo on kaiser. Stack accordingly. Eat (one).

Here's a good one. One of my favorites. It's not as hard as it sounds you chickens!:p This meal is a sure thing if you want to impress a certain someone:thumbsup:. You'll thank me later;). A good source of Omega-3 too.

Mussels in Linguine

2lbs-1kilo Mussels (I use blue mussels)
1 leek, medium sized, sliced thin
1 tbsp ginger (optional)
2 cloves garlic, chopped
1 tbsp Olive oil
1 cup of white wine. (drink the rest)
1 cup of chicken broth
1/3 cup butter or olive oil
1/4 cup chopped chives
3/4 cup chopped coriander
Enough linguine to serve 2-4

Soak mussels for about 15 minutes, agitating to remove any sand. Drain. Give the mussels a firm flick and discard any that don't close all the way.

I use a stock pot, but a large deep frying pan with a lid will do too. Saute leeks, ginger and garlic until soft. Add wine and broth, bring to boil. Stir uncovered for about 6-7 minutes. Meanwhile cook the pasta, toss with olive oil and set aside. Be mindful, you don't want cold pasta.

Add the mussels to the reduced wine mixture (still boiling), close lid, and steam for 5 minutes. Depending on the size of your cooking pot, you may not be able to do all the mussels at once. Keep this in mind and don't undercook the mussels. Discard any that don't open after 5-6 minutes. Remove mussels

Toss in the the butter or olive oil to the liquid mixture, boil one minute, toss in linguine, mussels, corriander and chives. Toss well. Serve in heated bowls. Enjoy:thumbsup: Questions? Just ask:D

Damn that sounds good. I'd use it the next time I'm cooking for a certain someone but I'm a fool in the kitchen. If there's a way to ruin it I'll find it.

That said I make a mean Macaroni & Cheese.:D

I thought those kind of kitchen incidents only happened to me. It's nice to know that someone has problems with cooking. Mac and cheese in my specialty, too.
