There have always been talks of the financial problems for both of these series. I've been hearing alot more about the two merging latley due to that. I personaly think it's not a bad idea. You would have to split the schedule to have equal amounts of Oval and Road course action. I don't know how the driver lineup and rules parts would play out, but I know it would make it interesting to see a blend of the cars. What do you think?

People have seemed to be talking about a merge ever since they split. I'm not that optimistic though it would probably be needed to jump start the american single seaters again.

I never knew they were ever together. Shows what I know.

I think IRL should be Oval and Champ Car should be circuits.

I am not a big fan of oval single seaters, If they decided to merge, I'd like to see them racing in real circuits only, not oval, not streets.

I am really interested in Champ Car and hope it become more international, I heard they will start racing in the UK.

Technically they weren't.

It used to all be Champ Car, the called CART. But in the mid-90's Indianapolis owner Tony George came up with own theory of what would rejuvinate open-wheel racing in America against NASCAR. He wanted all oval races with mostly American drivers.

The owners of CART refused this, so Tony George formed his own series, and took US open-wheel racing's biggest race along with it. There after CART struggled without it's biggest race and the new IRL struggled because it only had one race than anyone took seriously and lack of drivers with any talent, save Scott Goodyear and a few others.

A merge definatly would help these 2 series, the Indy 500 only just got a full field of 33 cars this year, but I think ego's on both sides, especially Georges, are too big for that to happen any time soon.
