OK, It's been a while since our last mystery. So I guess I'll have a crack at it.

Who is the driver in the picture?

What Team is he driving for?

What year was this photo taken?

At which Grand Prix was this photo taken?

Why is that Grand Prix noteworthy and what role did this driver play in it?

That's a lot of questions:confused:  Yikes.

Is it someone we know?

Most people who follow racing will have heard of him at some time or another.

The reason I asked is that at first glance it kinda looked like one of Fahad's cars:wonder:.

Wow, it's Derek Daly.

Williams TAG team, still with a lot of Saudia sponsorship,

so it should be year 1982.

Grand Prix of Monaco,

which is still famous as one of, or THE one, most unpredictable GPs. The race was going quite OK until it started to rain about 10 laps or so to go. Derek was one of the first to crash, but luckily, all the wings flew right away but the wheels were OK and he continued. That is when the most interesting part began- leader Prost crashed and Patreze took over the lead. But he didn't make it either, crashing his car on the very last lap. So- who's next? Pironi was in the lead when suddenly his car ran out of fuel. De Cesaris was to be in the lead when his fuel tank became emty too and he stopped even before overtaking Pironi. So, who was left? No other, than our hero Derek! But he couldn't make it to the finish either, as the car was too damaged. Mansell and De Angelis seemed to be the only drivers left and both made it to the finish, with Nigel overtaking Elio on the last lap. But it still was far from over, as marshalls got Patreze's car running again and he managed to relegate other two drivers back a lap down. :finishfirst:

I second that. Very impressive indeed.

I wonder if VMcLM is the kid DB went to school with that had no vowels in his name:confused:. If I had to pronounce his name, this is what it would sound like... Ahem.... Vuh mak' lim. Thank you.
