16 Races is the perfect amount of races IMO.

Formula 1 used 16 for years and years, until all these overseas places started wanting GPs.

Other than the Indy 500 because I will be at the Indy Track everyday in the month of May..:), I may try and go to about 3 of them.

The schedule looks pretty good, except the fact the 17th race didnt materialise so it looks like they got rid of Michigan (great track) for nothing. I am hoping to see the IRL expand to atleast 25 races by 2011 hopefully adding a few international events om both road courses and ovals.

Yes, I was hoping for 20 races next year. They dropped Michigan due to scheduling conflicts next year with the Mid-Ohio race. That was a fun race. I went to it this year.

I think too many races in certain series can get old but IRL is a series that can go 18-20 and be ok. Champ car is a series that gets old fast mostly due to the street courses. F1 is good at 16-18 races mostly due to the drama.

Schedule looking pretty good

Isn't the Motegi race tape-delayed in the US.

I'm pretty sure it will be live here on Sky Sports (UK)

Yes, the Japan Twin Ring Motegi race is tape delayed. They are like 13 hours ahead of us. Be nice if it was live to but then again, they would have to be racing at like 1:00 in the morning.:D

Is the merged schedule up to date or do we even know for sure what it will be yet? I know that Houston is canceled for sure. I wasn't sure if both schedules were 100% yet.

The official merged schedule is not out yet. Once it is, I will update this schedule immediately. It shouldnt be much longer, we are only 3 1/2 weeks out from the season opener.

I really curious about the CC side of it. They haven't even changed the CC official site at all.

Yeah, I noticed that the last time I was on it.

I do know the Long Beach race is the same weekend as the Twin Ring in April.

The latest scheduling rumor coming out of Indy is this...

Edmonton will be held on July 26th, at 5:00 pm on ESPN, and Surfers Paradise will be run on October 26th, with the TV coverage yet to be announced.

.1RL will not have a series title sponsor this year nor anytime soon !!!!... on the other hand, we might see Paul Tracy in a Vision car as of Indy... ;) :D

Does anyone know how the added races will be viewed as far as points?

Also

When will the dates be updated, or confirmed on the website?

Maybe you should take you own advice. You replied that IRL will never have a title sponsor in the thread talking about how DirecTV sponsored the IRL as well as Coca Cola. At least I have a clue what's going on in the threads I'm in.

Good news the IndyCar Series will compete in Canada for the first time -- July 24-26 in Edmonton, Alberta, in the Rexall Edmonton Indy on the City Centre Airport circuit.

Hopefully this means the other race addition anouncements will be coming soon.

Yes, Edmonton is now officially announced. Its been rumored for awhile with that date. Surfer's Paradise will run in October on the 26th. This race will not count with the championship points however.
The schedule on the front page has been updated.

Yep! And you can thank Andretti Green Racing for that. They purchased the assets of the Grand Prix of Toronto. So, I expect it to be in the schedule for quite some time.

There has been a minor change in the televised coverage of 2 races in the IndyCar series..

The race at Richmond on June 28th and the race at Nashville on July 12.
Both of these races start at 8pm Eastern and will be televised on ESPN instead of ESPN2 as was previously scheduled.

Well, it looks like there is a good chance the IRL may have a race in Loudon, New Hampshire for the 2009 season. It is being discussed. It's about a 70% chance right now. The track is a mile long oval!
