The first installment in the rFactor series features mixed class road racing with ultra realistic dynamics, an immersive sound environment and stunning graphics. This is the game you will want to play. rFactor provides unprecedented flexibility, allowing the series to grow and evolve with mod community involvement, race club formation, and feedback from users worldwide. We hope you enjoy the ride!

rFactor is one of the most realistic driving sim around. Maybe the best thing about it is the PvP community, there is countless amounts of leagues and servers where races are held daily basis. Few years ago there was even a NASCAR league with real sponsors and such, and drivers were PAID in cash. Not anything like real life drivers get but winner of the series got several thousands US dollars.

The game provides you with few carsets and tracks , but there is large amount of great carsets and tracks made by the modders.

F1-79, F1-07, NASCAR, Indy Car, Australian V8's, DTM, WTCC, Porsche Cup, GP2 etc, etc, etc...

Go check the rFactor homepages at
http://www.rfactor.net/

And the range of carsets and tracks with more screenshots at

Yea it does. I only have a gamepad though, so I'll take the game for a spin with it tonight . The screens got me sold

Maybe we can explore the establishment of a WRF presence in rFactor ;)

Alright, I downloaded the game yesterday and took her for a spin. It's a good start, but there are some annoying quirks.

1. I was hoping to test the hyped multiplayer feature, but for that I have to buy the game :wonder::mad:. Also, the distributor does not provide a standard game server. There are dedicated sites for that, which will take you a while to figure out

2. The game comes with one carset and two tracks to test. There should be some other ones so I can get a better impression.

3. For those who thought they can play it with a passable computer, it's probably not worth your time. I have a Core Duo 2.0 with 1 GB RAM and a Nvidia 6400 with 256 onboard and I can't go beyond Anti-Aliasing Level 1 on full details

4. The simulation itself is really nice. Sound is great and handling physics are realistic. I wasn't very impressed by the damage model, but that could be due to the graphics.

The understeer in the Skoda that the game let me play was of course ridiculous. When I play on a circuit like the Nurburgring I'm used to F1 cars

"After reading your post jostream, Im sure my computer wouldnt handle it very well. I'll stick with my XBOX."

I have a p4 2.4Ghz, 1Gb of Ram, 6800GT and rFactor runs really, really well. Turn shadows off and you'll be fine. It's really not that taxing on your PC and you can change the graphics level to DX7 or 8, which makes a huge difference apparently.

We just bumped into little problems with my friend. He dloaded the try&buy file from the official website and begun to install it. Now he is running with windows vista, which has dx10. The game installer wants to install dx9 into it. Well I could imagine that it's ok, you can always go and install dx10 back to the machine BUT there is no downloadable file of dx10 in microsoft pages, well atleast we didn't find one. As I'm not that good when it comes to things like this, is it safe to install dx9 to vista?;)

Even if you try, it won't install the DX9 files. The installer will recognize that it's a newer version and simply not overwrite the newer files :wonder:

I'm running a:

P4 3.0 ghz hyperthreading
1.25 gig ram (DDR400 / PC3200 @400mhz)
Lan Party DFI 865PE gaming motherboard
ATI All in wonder 6800 video card (not sure past that)
and a 20.1" Flat screen LCD

any suggestions or changes as far as running rFactor or should I be ok?

When I bail for Costa I'm gonna get the race seat etc. and go all out as I will have sold just about everything.

I think that you should be able to run the game Eir. Maybe 1g more ram could ease things up, eitherway it has been told that rFactor is well coded and doesnt need that much power from your system than other sim's do. But sure if you want to get the best v8's game around rFactor is your pick.

Yeah, rFactor is in my opinion the simracing game, better then LFS adn gtr2....

My favorite mod is F1 1979, i love that williams... the only problem with rFactor in my opinion is:
there is no rain officialy on the game yet, so only dry tracks untill this moment :o

There's wet addons that comes close to rain for certain tracks (and you can do it yourself if you know how)

Now after 8 hours of driving I'm keeping my little formula on the road :D. Sad part is that I'm having huge problems to have modded carsets to work in Vista, or then it's just me and my impatiency.:(

So at the moment I'm just driving with cars that the game provides. I was able to dload some tracks tho and they work so maybe cars will work also (at some point). But atleast F1 1979 just gives error messages when I try to install it... :(

Today was my first shoot for online games. Did 4 short races with Megane Trophy carset. Unluckily some driver aids like abs, auto gears etc were allowed so I couldn't truly compare myself to everyone because I'm sure someone used those, I'm using only auto clutch. I managed to finish 9th at Essington park and 8th at Barcelona from the starting grid of 28 drivers. Next time I'll try to find myself a setup and score higher. :finishfirst::)

Harakimi
15th Jan 2008, 07:54 PM
I finally managed to get F1 1979 to work! Seems that just the installer was corrupted. Driving with only autoclutch is rough! You really need to be careful on your throttle. When I was able to close the gap with the "top" drivers on Megane trophy from 15sec to 5sec, now I'm again 15 seconds behind everyone with 79's. But it doesn't matter, I like the challenge! :D:thumbsup:

I'd love to do some WRF racing in future, anyone? :D

Wheee!! I made the coolest overtaking manouver in Mexico with driving Porsche Carrera GT3's. It was a "national" Finnish race with 22 participants and I finished 16th so that wasn't great but I still consider myself a rookie in rFactor. Anyways the overtake. I decided to get fresh tyres around the mid point of race because driving got too difficult. I came back from the pits behind these two guys who didn't stop at all and I noticed that I can drive the last parabolica before the main straight way faster than they so I decided to make my move on that straight.

What was great is that the guy who was running infront of me got nice speed out from the parabolica and was going for overtake on straight. Meanwhile I was coming even faster behind them and we wen't 3 wide to the breaking area and I managed to overtake them both with one move, just like Hakkinen did in Spa with Schumacher. This time tho everyone was on same lap. Brilliant! I try to compress that file and put it on tube in near future. :D
