Was watching a hockey show last night and after the usual highlights from the national elite league games they had an interview with the GM for the Swedish national team where he presented the roster for the Karjala Cup (with Sweden, Finland, Czech Republic and Russia playing).

And... well... Peter Forsberg is joining the Swedish team.

After his foot operation (and probably 150 other surgeries) he's been practicing with his old team MoDo for a while now and now he's decided it's time to start playing for real again.

He's still not signed up for a club yet but if he's in shape and without injuries he will probably go back to the NHL. There are of course hopes that he will stay and get the Gold for his home team MoDo though as a Swedish Elite League gold is missing from his CV.

Now, if only he could stay uninjured for at least one game.

Wow, good for Peter. He has always been one of my favourite players. Great all-around player who can do basically everything on the ice and can play as center or winger. :)

Alexander Ovechkin plays just like Forsberg btw. Let's see where he is after 10 years. ;)

I think if he signs with an NHL club it won't be until the trade deadline. And it would be with a cup contender with some cap space (Ottawa is what first comes to mind:mad:).

He's high risk high reward and teams will take a chance him for the possible offense he could provide in the playoffs.

I'm glad to hear he is playing with MoDo:thumbsup: He's extremely skilled, with amazing hands. Like Andreas mentioned, the 150 some surgeries etc. Have to have taken a toll. He's been a glass-jaw from head to toe, literally, for some time... He used to drive me nuts! Being a Wings fan, Colorado was my arch nemesis:mad:. Oh the brawls we used to have:wonder: *sigh* Anyone remember when Mike Vernon and Pay Roy skated from either goal and went at it at center ice?:lol: GOALIE FIGHT!!!:D

But I digress... Unless he's an unrestricted free agent, and even at that, I don't think he can just sign onto a team before trade deadline. If he can, I call BS! He should at least be on any active roster from day one of the season, and played X minimum number of games, either in NHL, or on the farm.

1. He is an unrestricted free agent.

2. That's what the trade deadline is for. Teams can't sign UFA's after that and then throw them directly onto the playoff roster. It forces the player to play a certain amount of games with his new team before the playoffs.

Other than that I'm not entirely sure what you're trying to say about that.

With the small Forsberg-mania that's going on in Sweden right now I just thought of how cool it would be if he stayed in Sweden this season and managed to get the gold over here for his home team.

In 1994 he lost the final... and sort of lost his head in the process, which made for good TV and one broken hockey stick.

A translation from the interview:
- I'm so deeply disappointed with Börje (the ref in that game). He's so f**king useless.
- You're disappointed with the referee?
- Yeah, he's so f**king bad I should punch him. That's the truth.
- The World Cup... now Mats Sundin is cleared for play...
- (interupts) You know, I don't give a crap about that. Now I'm heading for the shower.

A bit grumpy.

I realise he's a UFA. I'm not sure why I said that:wonder:

I guess my point is, if he's not on a current roster, he should be ineligible for activation come trade DL.. You can't trade something you don't have. If he had signed for any team at the beginning of the year, fine. But to just pull him out of thin air come playoff time and offer him $$$ just to play a few weeks, I find re-donk-ulous:stop:.

I wish him all the best of luck bringing Sweden home a nice shiney SILVER:thumbsup::D

Forsberg is no longer back.

After 20 minutes of today's practice he had to step off the ice because he once again felt his old foot injury.

I'm pretty sure Forsberg is going into retirement now. :(
