I haven't played this yet, but was looking for a V8 supercars game and an F1 game for the US market. I found that Toca 3 has a 2005 Williams BMW F1 car and the Holden V8 as well as a Dallara Indy car. I may rent this bad boy and see what it's all about. Anyone else have game time on this one?
(I think we touched on this game in other threads but I figured I'd start one for it)

Me!
It's not a killer game by any means but the Formula Fords are ace to drive. I wouldn't pay full price for it now but in a bargain bin it's, well... a bargain.
Plenty of racing to be had in a wide variety of classes.

I saw it was an old Xbox system game so I am going to look for it cheap. Maybe I'll rent first and see. I saw an rFactor mod for V8's too so I may have to fix up the PC.
How are the graphics/physics?

The physics are pretty ok if I remember correctly. Lots of car deformation during crashes etc. The driving is leaning towards arcade, but not crossing over to the silly (i.e. not the Sega Rally type). The graphics are pretty good for an Xbox game from that period.
Now, I didn't spend a massive amount of time on this game as I had plenty of others to test during that period but if you do find it cheap I wouldn't hesitate in picking it up. It won't change your world in any way but it will kill off a few hours easily.

A clip (from the PC version I guess) that shows the variety of cars and series.

Ok(ish) graphics there, but the sounds are just horrible. Seems also pretty arcade game, not much driving sideways. Or then all the cars are fwd there.

Not sure it's compatible on the 360. I hate that MS did that to all the orig. Xbox owners. I mean how hard would it be to make all the games work, hell Halo (1) was the first xbox game ever and it works!!

I believe about all original XBOX games are compatible with the 360 if you have the hard drive on your 360 which I do. The IndyCar Series game is an original Xbox game and it works fine.

You believe wrong my friend. My buddies 360 that we had here has the HD and most of my old xbox games don't work. Your Indy 2005 does BUT the older Indy game won't work. You can see what games will work on the xbox site.

There's a lot of sideways driving with the Formula Fords, I can guarantee you that. :)

My cars were always the F1000's. Those little zippers could really go.
Yeah it's a decent game. The AI isn't that great though, they don't really seem fully aware of what's going on, so you're side by side you either have to move or you will crash because the AI sure won't move. And your car always spins much much easier than theirs.

Good news if you want to wait for the new one coming next year(2008).
Gavin Raeburn was talking to David Latham from Sliced Gaming(website):
"As each generation of gaming formats shifts up a gear, so does this series and Race Driver One(the new name of the TOCA games) is set to evolve the previously headlined TOCA (DTM/V8) titles as much as DIRT has the Colin McRae series," says Gavin Raeburn, Executive Producer at Codemasters Studios.
"Combining our racing heritage with the Neon engine, Race Driver One will create a world that goes far beyond the traditional boundaries of motorsport gaming, taking players from the most prestigious race circuits to road and street events around the globe. A completely fresh career structure will engage players in an unprecedented range of racing styles as they build a team capable of becoming number one. The Neon engine will be expanded to deliver a new level of visual detail, physics and an astonishing car damage system."
Sliced Comments: We can only assume "leading consoles" means PS3 and Xbox 360. It's doubtful this game will reach the Wii unless the graphics are seriously lowered.

Don't mess around and get tagged by another car....YOU get a penalty. Eff that!!. I got the game today used for the PS2. Not bad. There's a great linup of cars. V8 Supercars, IRL, DTM etc. I have to unlock them all and hit it up.
And your car always spins much much easier than theirs.
That is no joke. I got punted about 100 times by the slightest touch so I got mad an nailed a car in the side rear......nothing. Kept on going. Looks like the most important thing is to quali in front to avoid ANY traffic.

Yea the sound is very metallic, although the video quality may be misleading for both elements :wonder:

So far I like the game. The biggest problem I have is the ease in which you spin out (which was mentioned before) The graphics are pretty good on the PS2. It's not PS3 or Xbox 360 but still good. It will hold me over till I get rFactor going.
Also, I got the game used for about $15.

Don't think for a second that a 10 second lead means anything. I watched the nearest guy to me (in 2nd) fade off my track map only to get punted by him a sec. later. He was waaaaaaaay back there and magicaly was in my rear. Uh huh, so much for realism in that dept.
:mad::mad::mad: This game is starting to piss me off something fierce. First I can't accelerate, then when I DO manage some throttle I spin. Somehow all the cars are 30 times faster and are on a rail.:mad:
The controls are actualy alot better with the wheel (besides the steering) which is suprising to me.

Toca 3 + MC2 Wheel + WRX + Spa = AAAAAAAAHhhhhhhhhhh bagoosh!!! I can't make that turn through Eau Rouge to save my ***! Fun though. I've been using the wheel and driving from the drivers perspective (something I never do w/a controller) and It is alot more fun, and surprisingly easier. I played in the F1000's in Bahrain and with the controller struggled to get into 1st. With the wheel I got up to a 6.6 sec. lead on lap 2 of 3. I think it's largely the throttle control you have. Far less spins.
