Now Renault is under investigation for possibly holding data from team McLaren (or Ferrari if you think about it). Same charges that McLaren faces and were fined $100m. for. Great, just what the sport needs. The thing that I find funny about it is that the F1 brass is moving the sport in a spec series direction anyway.

In this case the situation is bit different. We are talking about a former McLaren employee who maybe has taken some information with him to Renault. I think this happens every time when people switch teams, more or less.

Yea, that is different. But McLaren doesn't want to take it all alone, and they did warn that if found guilty, they would pursue other teams with similar charges. For them, it can't get any worse. If at all, they are saving some face by pulling others down with them

Either way, it's bad for the sport. They're going to be doing this with every team now. They are getting to the point where they need to start a redesign of the cars in order to make sure everyone has their own tech. It seems that this day in age you are going to end up with 22 almost identical cars no matter what.

Let's hope Ferrari doesn't ever get caught up in this kind of espionage. If they ever do, the whole series could be in jeoprady. I used to love it when Schumi always would get out of his car after winning and glance over at his competitors cars like he was trying to figure out what the hell they were up to:lol:

TV could put a good spin on it. Something along the lines of 'Fastest Attorney', or 'Racing Lawyers'

Team Renault didn't get any punishment from the FIA.

If the TV writers weren't on strike it'd already be in production

To be honest, it doesn't make sense to me. Why on earth does McLaren have to pay all that money and suffer a blow to its reputation as a team, while Renault get away with it?
If they are not going to punish Renault, they should not have punished McLaren. The whole thing is a mess

The FIA may have realized that McLaren shouldn't have been punished, but also noticed a dangerous trend starting and are trying to kill it now.
The only thing worse than inconsistant rules is when the competitors are allowed to write the rule book.

Its terrible what this sport has come to.
Teams spying or whatever to get info on other teams. I liked the days when you got a car modded it to race competitive turned up and raced. :) A very long time ago.
Havent got much else to say about the matter.

My prediction for big '08 scandal: Ross Brawn brings all of Ferrari's data to Honda. FIA investigation result: no penalty due to inability of anyone at Honda to competently translate the data from English/Italian to Japanese......:)
