View Full Version : To Facebook Or Not To Facebook

We've all heard about, we all know what it is and I'm assuming that most people, also at the WRF, use it.
I'm one of the few people who did not follow the trend. As much as it can be useful, I've watched how annoying it can become. A culture of watching other people's lives emerges, which is something I hate. When you have 200 friends on your list and everyone expects you to write a comment about this or that picture, take the 'How Well Do You Know Me' quiz or re-poke, it really becomes a full-time job.
I rather stick to E-Mail and Cell Phones for now. As a careful observer of online market trends, I think Facebook will soon loose out to Google. The search engine giant has a huge project in the pipeline that will let Microsoft think twice whether the $250 million dollar check for a single-figure stake in Facebook was a good idea

I only got on because my GF got on and was able to find alot of old friends. I got back in touch with alot of old friends that I lost touch with when I joined the Army and they went off to college and other military. Other than that it serves as an ad for here.

I like Facebook. Sure it can get annoying, but that's only if you have annoying friends.
I don't stay friends with annoying people so I don't get all the useless junk.

I don't do any of it either. No Facebook (although my sister insisted she have a picture of us on hers:rolleyes:) Myspace, ICQ, Messenger..
WRF is all I got baby:thumbsup: And I'm quite happy with that;)
Some people are just terribly desparate for attention, and will go to great lengths for people to 'pay attention' to them, they put themselves out there all willy nilly. It reveals a self-centred individual with low self esteem. That's my professional opinion:cool:
I have other views on the whole 'Hooking up with old friends' bit too. Anyone who is in a commited relationship, and their partner starts going on Facebook, Classmates, etc. should take notice. The primary reason is just that. To 'Hook Up'. Pay attention kids...
*I don't think your troubled Fahad:thumbsup: That's a good use for it;)

Are you talking about me?
What made me into Facebook are the events and groups.
It's good to get events news from your network and to get news from the groups.
It works great in my motorsport network.
I think WRF should start a group their.

Why don't you spread the word on the WRF there? Then you can do your marketing here

I have a myspace account also because one of my friends moved to live in Thailand, and he used to keep a blog there, nowadays I don't even remember my username... But I always thinked that myspace was badly organised, didn't work at all, looked somewhat old and crappy, yuck!. Reminded me abit of those early 90's websites.....

I have facebook. But I don't really use it that much.
I find it useful if I'm doing a group project, note that I hate group projects, in that you can make a group for that project and organize meetings and information better than by sending emails.

That is so TRUE. I don't know why people get so annoyed at simple stuff like facebook. It haven't ruined lives yet, I guess. And if it did, well too bad for that person, cause he must have been way out of hand somehow. It is so amazing that I got in touch with an old friend that i haven't seen since 1996. Isn't that so amazing just to know what happend out of curiousity. The world anyways is just one big village. It's not so bad after all.
You don't have to add people you don't know. Plus, you can limit every single thing on your profile for each and every single person, whether on your friend's list or an outsider. And JoStream, there is a level of addiction, not all of us are highly addicted to it :p we do have lives you know :D

oh come on! just get on facebook and stop crying like a baby.. i have to admit that I hated all similar social sites.. ie hi5, wayn, myspace and I was never really a member or invlolved in any.
But i got facebook when it was still just for university students and no one else was allowed to join (you had to have an approved university email address from one of the universities they listed). I have to admit it is very nice to get in touch with some people that otherwise you would of never talked to again.. and its quite "private" as you have to allow someone to access your info (ie friends).
But it is pissing me off lately with all the applications they put in. i just liked it pure and simple as it was before.

Maybe I'm just an oddball because I'm happy with my current friends and I'm not interested at all to get in touch with "old" ones from the past.

Orkut actually belongs to Google. Found that out just recently . It's apparently very popular in Brazil too.
