On November 5th multiple Swedish Touring Car champion Richard Görnasson took a street legal souped up BMW M3 E46 CSL to try and beat some of the supercars around the Nordschleife.
The lap time ended up at 7:22 in cold conditions with Richard claiming that a 7:15 would be possible in good conditions, with proper preparations and with a clear track.
Some lap records around the Nordschleife (with more or less road legal cars):
6:55 Radical SR8 - Michael Vergers
7:11 McLaren F1 Promo car - Mika Häkkinen
7:12 BMW M3 GTR - H.J. Stuck
7:12 Radical SR3 Turbo
7:14 Donkervoort D8 - Michael Düchting
7:15 EDO Porsche 996 GT2 RS - Patrick Simon
7:22 BMW M3 E46 CSL Loaded - Richard Göransson
7:28 Pagani Zonda F
7:28 Porsche Carrera GT - Walter Röhrl
7:32 Porsche 997 GT2 - Wakter Röhrl
7:34 Koenigsegg CCR - Horst von Saurma
7:38 Nissan GT-R
7:40 Bugatti Veyron
7:42 Corvette C06 - Jan Magnussen
7:42 Ford GT
7:43 Lamborghini Murcielago
7:46 Jaguar XJ220 - John Nielsen
7:47 Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano

I had to watch that 3 times!:D Amazing might be an understatement. And yeah, the sound is unreal.
I was practically hypnotized by it. As you watch him, it's almost like a good book or story that builds and builds. And once you reach Flugplatz, about 2 thirds of the way through, it's like this great brutal coreography. Finally the great straight, like the climax to the film before the end. Beauty!
Thanks DB:thumbsup:

I'm not sure which corner your referring to but it's not Flugplatz.;) Flugplatz is in the very early part of the lap, at about 50 seconds into the run.
But regardless that is a great lap, on my all time favourite circuit.
The unofficial lap record is held by the late Stefan Bellof at 6:11.13 while qualifying for the 1983 Nurburgring 1000km. The official record is 6:25.91, also held by Bellof set during the 1983 1000km race in a Porsche 956.
Thanks to the wonder that is video games I have been able to run this track hundreds of times. During the summer I would usually do 5-10 laps a day. I just can't get enough of that track.
My personal best is a 6:06. set in a Porsche GT1.

Very, very nice . It's such a sexy track, a real challenge. What I like a lot are the narrow curbs that are the only separator between the track and the moist grass. No run-off areas, a mistake is a mistake :wonder:
But two questions remain. As far as I understand anybody can drive on that track. If that's the case I need to prove whether my feeling that I could drive around it faster is correct
Anybody have a BMW M3 E46 CSL for day use? I'll accept equivalent Mercs too :p

I'll have to watch the video again:D I'll try and find the time. I was going off a map I have of the track. It was late, and I had 'other' matters at hand. Don't drive the Ring:drunk::lol:. Obviously I'd do a much longer stint than you would:lol: I haven't got the damn thing memorized:wonder::lol:
Either way it's freakin' beautiful to watch:thumbsup:

I don't know why, but for some reason, I can't get your embeds to work, Ryan:confused: I'm sure it's the Tube, because they wouldn't work for me there either.
*I can't seem to get any Tube vids to work tonight:mad:

Strange. The only one that works for me is the one DB had originally posted:confused:
Anyway, you'll notice that the Heidfeld clip has embedding disabled. That's why I removed it. I suppose I could have left the url though:rolleyes::o
