hi,

Can we have quick reply feature available in Vbulletin? Every time we have to press a button to get the textbox where we can type our reply that is time consuming..so if we enable quick reply feature we will be having that box appear after last post of the thread where we can type and press submit....

Hi Darklord,

Thanks for your suggestion. We are looking into this feature and may implement it soon :). There are many new features on their way, but instead of doing them individually, I'm aiming to update everything in one shot...

yea this is actually a very good suggestion and I would quite like to see it implemented in the future.

It's just an additional feature. If you are comfortable with the way things are you can just use the system already in place ;)

I'll prolly stick to my old-fashioned ways:rolleyes: I'm not as impatient as some of the youngsters:lol: It took me longer to figure it out than it did to do the quick reply:lol:

Damn kids!

We'll see how it goes. I'm smiley happy so I may use a little of both.

good feature thanks!

but one question... why do we have to press a "quick reply button" to activate this? I am sure it is much easier if I am already at the bottom of the page to just click in the box and type :)

but again.. maybe thats just me.. heh

I'm sure it's built in to the vbulletin program

I'm guessing it is because otherwise the scripts would have no idea to what post you replied and that would bring havoc to the ones who view the forum in threaded mode instead of linear.

No. There is a feature in vbulletin to allow quick reply without pressing the button.

But how does that work out? Is the reply then related to the first post or the last post in threaded view?

It will be appended to the thread. (ie last post). It will be an independent reply not a quote to other post.

exactly.. it is quite a common feature in many forums and it just posts your reply as the last post on the topic. quick reply is not for quoting people..

The reason for the quick reply is that you dont have to click on reply or quote and wait for another page to load. instead you just write/sumbit and you are done

I wasn't talking about quoting. What I meant was that as it is a reply, it must be related to a post... otherwise it's not much of a reply... more of a... ply. :D

I just looked at the options in one of my vBulletin installs. The default is to require the user to click on a post before the quick reply.

The text to explain this says:

If you set this option to 'no', users will not have to click the Quick Reply icon in order to type a message in the quick reply box.

However, this will be at the expense of the usefulness of the Threaded and Hybrid view modes, as the system will not know to which post a user is replying, so the threaded view will become non-sensical.

So it is a matter of if Jo wants the threaded view mode to work or not.

Yes, but all posts gets related to another post. That's the point of threaded forums. It's not a big deal in linear display mode (which is the deafult viewing mode) as everything gets sorted by datetime. In threaded mode however things gets sorted by relations to posts at first and by datetime second. That's the dilemma.

Yea, that's the reason. At this point I do not want to take away the threaded viewing mode option, even though not many people use it. It might be a bit annoying, but that click is still a lot faster than the original way (for those that are using the WRF while driving :p ).
