I think he, like Matt Mladin, has found his place in AMA. I'd love to see some of the AMA guys make the jump though.

Roger hasn't spent much time on the big bikes yet. I honestly don't think that Tommy or Roger are MotoGP material. Yet. And Roger is already 24.

Would Matt Mladin going to MotoGP be like Bourdais going to F1? I know Matt is an awsome AMA superbike champ but MotoGP is a slightly different animal.

Hmmm.. Yeah maybe, I'm not sure how much snottier the F1 cars are compared to Champ cars. No doubt different in certain respects.
And comparing high perf. bikes and cars are like comparing apples to oranges.
The sheer power to weight ratio on the GP bikes, and all of the top-notch components, even compared to the bikes in the WSBK, make you wonder how the best can be as good as they are. It's no easy feat to be competitive in MotoGP. (And no, I'm not saying it's easy in any other discipline either)
Yeah, that's not a bad comparison.

He's alright. Just not on the big bikes. Yet. The family name in american Motorcycle racing is big though, being all 3 of them race competitively. And it doesn't hurt that Nicky got to be Champ in GP last year:rolleyes: I'd see Tommy move to something like WSBK before I saw Roger move up internationally.

You have to break it down by series too. I follow (well used to) AMA superbike. Great riders like Matt Mladin (the Schumi of AMA with 6-7 consecutive champs.) Miguel Duhammel, Ben Spies, and a few others.
Then you have MotoGP with guys like Valentino Rossi (the Dr.), Casey Stoner, and (this is where Salty is the expert) others.
I still have yet to really get into MotoGP due to not knowing the riders or the schedule.

See, I have a lot to learn on motorcycle racing myself. I may start watching it more. I might start following this young rider.

I'm not sure I'd put Mladin in the same category as Schumi, but definitely Bourdais. Valentino in MotoGP would be a better comparison:thumbsup:
And I am certainly NO expert:( But thank you anyways:D

If you want really exciting action (they are all exciting) watch the MotoGP. The big nasty grand daddy of Motorcycle races. I'd keep my eyes on Jorge Lorenzo in the upcoming season. He may be the one guy to give Casey Stoner a run for his money, (provided Yamaha has the bike dialed in).
This year (08) should be great in GP with all the new faces, and old ones on different machines:thumbsup:

I watched AMA for a few years but got bored with Mladin being soooooo dominant. Now there are some more riders competing for his title spot. Ben Spies won it as his team mate for the last 2 years. Team Yoshimura Suzuki (the factory Suzuki team) is THE team to beat. I got into bikes when I got bitten by the motorcycle bug. I wanted a sport bike so I got into it and fell into the Suzuki bikes. I'm too out of shape for a sport bike though. I'm happy on my 3/4 scale old school rod bobber. I still couldn't tell you the quali style of anything to do with points.:lol:

I meant of AMA only. Schumi with 7 titles and Mladin with 7 (I think) But ya, as far as series I see what you mean. Rossi might be a better one I agree.
Are the bikes from AMA Superbike and MotoGP THAT different??

Completely... Well, I shouldn't say that. The GP bikes are all prototype bikes. Lighter, somewhat smaller, smaller displacement (currently 880cc vs. 1000), but with much greater performance. It can outcorner, outbrake, and pull away with enormous force.
Before MotoGP as we know it today, there was the 500cc World GP bikes that were 2 stroke vs. todays 4 stroke bikes. They were a handfull to manage:eek: Absolute brutes they were!!
