Hans-Joachim Stuck, former german F1 driver from the 70's will next year become 'Motorsport Representative' for Volkswagen, the fourth largest automobile manufacturer in the world. In his new role, to commence on January 1st, Stuck will advise the board on motorsport issues and work on the strategic development of new motorsport opportunities for the Group brands. VAG group owns brands like Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Seat, Skoda, Volkswagen and Porsche so there would be lots of brands to choose from. This surely has boosted rumours of VW to enter the F1 series alot.

It would make sense to go in with Porsche or Lamborghini. But VW is involved in a lot of motorsport, so hiring a 'representative' does not automatically increase the likelihood of an entry into Formula 1 :wonder:

I would think Audi, Porche or VW from a marketing standpoint. A Lambo sells itself. Of course if a Lambo is beating a Ferrari then that would be good for that target too. Hell, just throw all the brands on the car!! Hehehehe

I mean if you think about it Ferrari is in F1 as a brand by itself. It's not called Fiat. But on the other hand, you have Toyota that has a luxury line under the name of Lexus, but they still chose to go in as Toyota

Very true. There are alot of Ferraris on the road. My vote has to be Audi then Porche. I was looking at it like Toyota. Toyota surpased GM as the largest auto maker so it makes sense to use the Toyota name on the car.

I'm not seeing they would ditch the extremly successful Audi prototype program to join F1 where they would very likely struggle for a good number of years like Toyota has done.
In Le Mans they are kings for much less than it costs to be a backmarker in F1. And as a brand I think Audi strengthens more by winning the 24hrs than being beaten in F1 by Mercedes, BMW, Honda, Toyota and Fiats.
And I don't think VW has enough money to spend to launch another brand in F1 while still developing the prototypes for Audi.
If the new Peugeots start beating Audi in Sportscars then perhaps it's time to shift focus though...

Maybe they just want to throw their hat in the ring as another German engine supplier!

I think thats probably why they are stating to think about it. If seen two races and the Peugeots dominated. There was no competion with any other cars.
