Fastenal will be the primary sponsor for Dario Franchitti next year for the 2008 NASCAR season. Dario is with Chip Ganassi Racing driving the #40 Dodge Avenger.

In case anyone doesnt know, Fastenal is a large distributor of fasteners to major industrial suppliers.

No, as EIR said, he is no longer in the IRL unfortunately.:(

This year he won the Indianapolis 500 and was the IRL Champion. He went out on top thats for sure. He will be greatly missed in the IRL but I will pull for him in NASCAR thats for sure.

I'm quite scared for Dario. I dont think he'll enjoy his time.

I wonder if he'll perform better than David Stremme. If not then he might catch some flak

Well, sorry I have to disagree.;) I would rather see Dario stay in the IRL, however, he will do very well in NASCAR. I believe he may even win a race or two. I think he will suprise a lot of NASCAR fans next year. Dario is an awesome driver.

Well NASCAR fans are generally poor sports. They dont like the heavy amount of open wheel guys coming in. (But they all sucked at their first few races. Only Montoya's doing good). So the fans has really nothing to complain.

IMO i would like to see more. These guys are proving the legitimacy of stock car oval racing by doing poorly

No, because it can't have anything to do with moving from open wheel, and in JV and Montoya's case full road racing, to stock cars.

The public's consensus is ovals (or NASCAR) takes "no skill"

If that's the case then people like JV and JPM would not struggle in NASCAR or ovals at all.

But they do. JV's Talladega race was pretty poor despite finishing in the early 20s. (this is because everyone finished after him crashed or had an engine failure).

While JPM has major troubles on tracks like California and Bristol.

All I'm saying is that these guys are disproving that right now

I don't think anyone here would say it has no skill. It's just a different type of skill. One that the open wheel drivers have to learn. And just because they're not immediately successful doesn't mean they won't ever be. Look at Robby Gordon he has done well in both open wheel and stock cars. Not to mention off roading.

Villeneuve is a fast learner. I'm sure he'll learn how to effectively draft in a massive pack in no time (and Michael Waltrip is a giant show off at that talladega race :D)

I would like to see more open mindedness towards NASCAR. Just because it's on ovals doesn't mean it doesn't provide great action. In fact, sometimes oval provides more action than road courses. (But I still like ChampCar and Super GT :D).

Anyways, I'm not trying to downplay anyone's talents.

Ok guys, get back on topic ;)...Dario Franchitti and Fastenal. I believe there is already a thread started about open wheel driver talents somewhere...

It's not NASCAR racing that I dislike, it's many of the fans. I watch NASCAR from time and see my favourite driver (Jeff Gordon) win and then be pelted by beer cans.

That's unacceptable.:stop:

I just always associate Fastenal with Schrader :D

I agree here. NASCAR fans are horrible and at times quite racist. This is the main reason why I sometimes migrate to SuperGT or ChampCar (and occasional F1)
