View Full Version : Ralf Schumacher Admits He's Likely Finished in F1

"I want to achieve something and I don't think I can do that with Force India," he is quoted as saying by autosport.com. "I am going home now and we will see."
Later, he told the German press that it was likely "my last ride in a F1 car".

I guess this won't leave too many people upset.

I never really got respect for him. IMO he got into F1 mostly because of his surname, I wonder he has stayed there for this long.

Bye bye Ralf!

I'll gives Ralf credit. He had some good drives.

He kept his car on the track in Spa 1998 when everyone else, except for Damon Hill, crashed.

I remember Canada 2001 he passed and pulled away from Michael Schumacher.

I agree, he was longer in Formula 1 than he should have been. He reached his peak with Williams in 2001, then kept falling back until he could not climb back up again. I'm pretty sure it has a lot to do with motivation.

He should have trashed the idea of testing for Force India. Now he'll be remembered as the guy who was desperate for a drive, tried out for Force India, trailed the others by half a second and didn't even make the cut

Let's not forget the pressure he was always under being Michael's brother and competing in the same arena on the same track all the time. Not saying his results would have been better, but something to consider. Must have been very uncomfortable, despite what either one of them might say about it.

Yeah it seems like that at the moment but he had his great moments with Williams. He done all right from about 01 back imo.

I'm not bringing out the champagne just yet. Not until the season starts and he's not in a car.

But I have to agree about Ralf not always being a rubbish driver. He's been quick on occasions and has deserved to be in F1, just not for the last couple of years. :)

As soon as he moved to Toyota he started going shocking. And for last couple of years with Williams

Do you think he will end up in champ car ?

No. DTM, LeMans, vacation, etc. Most Euro guys don't end up in Champ or IRL. He could make an appearance in A1GP. It's also Ralf, he strikes me as "above" Champ etc. That and he's making more now than most top paid Champ Drivers.

Lots of great drivers go to DTM. Frentzen, Hakkinen, Hill to name a few.
Id put money on it that he'll end up there. :)

He will struggle. DTM is very competitive and difficult. And Damon Hill only tested a DTM car, he never actually drove a season :wonder:

Ralf never seemed to recover from his crash in Monaco, when the piece of suspension went through his leg.

I wouldn't say that's true. After all, he drove home six wins after injuring his leg at the 2000 Monaco Grand. I would say his performance decline started after he lost out in the title fight in 2003, exacerbated by his nasty accident in Indy 2004 :wonder:

There is a british girl driving in DTM.. why would he struggle! jokes aside though it is very competitive but I don't see why he wouldn't make it..

I feel that Ralf was a good driver. A very good one who deserved a place in F1. In fact a few years ago, as mentioned already, he was competitive. But it's not easy having a legend as your big brother. It's like being the second driver in a team. You are good, but as good as you might be you are not expected to win. Number 1 is the one going for the championship.

Also I will agree with the comments on losing his motivation. After some really good years, let face it, he wasn't part of a championship team. And driving a good car, with a good team, really does help. He probably just figured out it's never going to happen and just drove purely for the money and the "job" rather than satisfaction and his career.

You get good drivers then you get great drivers. Ralph was a good driver rather than a great driver. You also get great cars and good cars, and then you get a Toyota! A good drivers need a great car to shine, a great driver will shine in a good car, but no one can shine in a Toyota!

So, I'll never shine in my 2001 Corolla?

AAAhahahaha!! Prolly not! I had the same car for a while. Does yours puke blue when you start it up cold too? The older ones seemed to last forever, and the late nineties - early 2000's were junk:thumbsdown:

He seems to be blaming Toyota a lot...he could be doing this to hide something :whistling:

I kinda resent him after that "my brother wouldn't have won in a Minardi" comment...I mean seriously comparing a Toyota to a Minardi -_- I'll laugh if Toyota does good this year

I think he's just trying to make the point that a great driver can only do so much. And yes comparing the Toyota to a Minardi is unfair....to Minardi. Keep in mind that there are TWO drivers on each team and the Toroota has been a POS for both. I think Ralf's issue is that people hold him to a level on par with his brother and he clearly isn't on that level and he resents that. Either way he needs to quit *****in and go drive in another series.
