I always wondered how fast can FIA championship karts go? Probably not higher than 120 km/h :wonder:

oh yes it is.

125cc Shifters can do over 120 mph, which is about 190kmh. My Honda would do over 100kmh no problem.

Formula A do 90-100 mph.

They go that fast in FIA-sanctioned Kart series? You don't even have a roll cage, that wouldn't make sense in terms of advocating driver safety

Yeah, but as soon as the Kart really starts to tumble you fall out. Then it's more like falling off a motorcycle at 100mph.

Obviously it takes a heck of straight to reach that speed, and since most tracks are built to be as long as possible in as small an area as possible they generally have few long straights.

My favourite kart track of all time, of those I have driven, is the kart track at Mosport. The longest configuration is over a mile long, and takes just under 90 seconds to lap. It has long straights and big sweeping corners.

And then there's off course the Superkarts... but I guess they are borderline car racing as they race the "real" circuits.

At 1:50 into the movie they start. The warmup lap isn't that much fun. ;)

At this track the Superkarts are more than two seconds faster than the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup 997's and three seconds faster than the Super 2000 touring cars.

This incident at 8:10 has happened to me more than once. Someone gets a run, slingshots around and then slams on the brakes...

It's like WTF!!??

Surprised to see him retire though, that wasn't enough of a shunt to do serious damage.

Im a 125 cc shift kart (KZ2) driver and i have to say that when you drive so close to the ground it feels much faster. But most of the courses dont have that long straits but a test at a real racing track , ye sure .

(sry for my bad english) im from sweden ^^

Back in the days when the Superkarts ran at Adelaide on the Aussie GP meeting the top one was clocked at 165MPH on the Brabham straight.

And here in NZ back in the 80's the same driver while practicing out with the Group A saloon's pulled out and pasted one on the back straight at Pukekohe at 140MPH.
