The front wing has been completely redesigned, but other than that quite similar to 2007

Notice Heikki taking a photo with his cell phone.

With all the scrutiny they've been under, I imagine it'd have to be!

The car looks cool but I dont like the paint scheme. Not big on silver and orange like that.

It's actually red but it sure is bright.

Ok, with a further examination, I guess it is red. I still dont like it.:D

I liked the car before they got Vodafone all over it. I like the "chrome" look. I liked the Minardi car right before they left F1 alot. Still my fav is the Ferrari red from any year.

For some reason, Ive always liked the red bull car. I guess its probably because I like the logo.:D

MP-23 hasn't change too much, but I have to say that those sidepods are WILD. One noticeable change is spotted with red circle at picture 2.

Ron Dennis say's a lot of changes before Australia! Maybe we won't recognize it by then.

Things will change for sure. Atleast at todays shakedown they were using same type of front wing than at 07 season.

McLaren's new front wheel covers:

That's just crazy!!

Looks very weird, anyone with a good quess what's the function of these? Atleast they protect the wheel at little bumps. Maybe McLaren is going to install some James Bond style gadgets there to blow up opponents tyres! But whats with that "stud" on the nose?

They're supposed to deflect heat from the brakes away from the body of the car.

Yep that is why those were invented in the first place but why they are so different from what other teams are using.

That cover looks weird. I dont see the reason or the need. Any type of addition to a car will create some drag which isnt good in racing.

Here is a close up picture from the front wheel cap. The extension might be a somekind of sensor because I'm not sure if that size/shape is legal. The stud I was wondering appears to be a normal antenna. :)

Thanks a lot for posting this HaraKimi. It's an interesting deviation from traditional designs.

Yea, I agree, it might be illegal because it extends from the perimeters of the wheel rim. A closeup picture from the front might help explain how these new additions affect the car aerodynamically :wonder:

COCKPIT-Major changes have been introduced to this area to improve the quality of the air directed to the car's rear wing. The engine air intake has been placed further behind the headrest and a sort of long splitter, which continues towards the very slim engine cover, has been added to reduce the area's cross section and diminish disruption to the airflow. In line with new regulations, the side protection around the driver's helmet has also been heightened. This connects to the rear bodywork in a more abrupt way to minimise the additional drag it creates.
REAR BODYWORK-Compared to the MP4-22, the rear of the car has been visibly lowered, with the exhaust pipes now placed further to the side. There are new movable covers, which could be replaced with cooling slits as the season progresses. The winglet behind the venting chimney has also been refined. Rather than being curved, as on the MP4-22, the profile of its top edge is now completely flat. This increases the quantity and pressure of the airflow directed towards the rear wing, and uses the low pressure of the exiting hot exhaust gasses to accelerate that airflow.
FRONT SUSPENSION-The changes made to the car's front suspension are particularly interesting. As on the Ferrari F2008, the front of the chassis now higher than that of its predecessor, hence the quantity of airflow passing underneath the car has been dramatically increased. As a result, the team have angled the lower wishbone downwards and increased the number of small sculpted winglets underneath in order to manage the airflow more efficiently.

Sorry Dunk! That made me laugh real hard..That's the smallest attachment I've ever seen!:lol: It's smaller than a thumbnail, even at full size..

A for effort:thumbsup:

*That was a nice quick fix up job:thumbsup::D Well done:lol:

Still a novice to F1 here. I just started following it last year.

Didn't McLaren have a floating front wing? Was that a rule change, or did they decide to do away with it.

Is that for real then because i would have said that was never going to get used in race, purely testing tool surely:confused:

It was just some device, we wont see that mystical "tool" in races, it's illegal.
