The speakers in my computer have stopped working for some reason. I think it may something with the sound card. I can tell the music is playing, but there's just no sound, and headphones or external speakers (I use a laptop) don't work either.
Anybody have any idea's here?:confused::confused::confused:
I think I may be taking a trip to Future Shop very soon as I have an extended warranty on this thing and I only got in the summer.

Well, the first thing I always do is check the device manager and make sure all is ok there. If so, go online and find the latest drivers for your soundcard, install them and reboot.

The genius's at FS should be able to take care of that lickety-split for ya:rolleyes::banghead: Too bad. "Would you like the extended warranty with that?" NO!:banghead: They're like a cult of warranty worshippers:confused::lol:
Good luck with your service. That sucks:thumbsdown: No sound that is:(

If they give me a problem I'll raise hell.
I need this computer for school.

Can I buy tickets to that event??:D:lol: I'd pay to see that! And bring popcorn:thumbsup: The FS staff really get on my nerves:banghead: They are either arrogant, overzealous half-wits. Or just plain lazy half-wits:rolleyes:

They get paid commission. So I'll just say if they fix it right now I'll buy something.
(and then when they fix it I won't buy anything hehe)

Actually the only significant commission they make is off the extened warranty's they try to hawk on you:banghead: Otherwise it's by the hour, Hair-Gel addicts and pimple poppers:rolleyes:
I haven't had too much trouble returning anything, but I haven't had any service done there..:wonder:

Well, if its under warranty, than take advantage of it and get it fixed. It is a soundcard and not integrated sound, correct?

The last sound issue I had was simply that the cable had come loose. Hope you already checked that. Hehehe

Quite often when it comes to computers, its the simple things that get overlooked.
I mean, my power supply was going bad and in the meantime I was blaming, RAM, processor, motherboard, video card etc.

And I hope you've checked that all the possible mute buttons or programs are off :)

yea that could be the reason.. can get you lots of times.
however I am guessing you already checked that before you asked in here. Since you have a warranty just take it to the shop and let them deal with it. No need for :banghead:

It's a laptop. There is no cable to the speakers. They're built in.;)

I've discovered that if I turn the volume all the way up and use headphones I can get sound, very faintly and distorted, in one ear. The left one.:wonder:
Any other scenario and there is no sound at all.

I don't know the difference.

With it being a laptop it is most likley an integrated sound card. (Made into the motherboard as opposed to being a seperate card.) It sounds like the card is bad to me. If you go to the sound options (Start/Programs/Accessories/Entertainment/Volume Control in XP) you can check to make sure that's all set right. Other than that I would guess it's warranty time.

No,
Futureshop won't touch it because it's still under warranty to HP. And to get HP to work on it I have to send it to the factory. Since I can't loose my computer for 3 weeks I can't send it in until the school year is over.
