The Twin-125's (I think they have a new name now) are on thursday. It should see good action as they determine the final qualifying order, and who, of the lower teams, stays and who goes home.

They'll be on TSN in Canada. At 1pm and 7:30pm EST.

I dislike that top 35 rule. It looks like some of the people I'm rooting for aren't going to make the show...poor John Andretti :banghead: At least McClure actually has a reasonable shot now.

That's not the actually starting grid as there are only 43 cars who will be eligible to run the race.

Todays "time trials" were to determine the front row only.

But everyone who posted a time (the list above) merely earned a starting spot in one of Thursday’s 150-mile qualifying races. (odd qualifying positions in one duel, even qualifying positions in the other)

35 will get in automatically based on owners points, but their starting positions will be determined by their finishing positions in the duels.

From there, only the top two non- owner's points qualified finishers in each race get to go to the big show. That brings the field up to 39.

Dale Jarrett has no points but is assured of starting because he is the most recent series champion entered. If he doesn’t qualify any other way, he would automatically would start 43rd.

That leaves 40-42 to be filled by the remaining fastest drivers from Sunday.

confused yet????

Ya, me too... but since I'm just starting to follow Napcar, I did a little research so I knew what the **** was going on! LOL! :p

Go Patreek and Jacques!! http://www.hallo-spass.de/smilies/flaggen1/smilie_flagge17.gif

This is style of qualifying is only for the Daytona 500 right?

This is style of qualifying is only for the Daytona 500 right?

from what I understand yes. (as far as the duels go)

I do believe however that the "getting in based on owners points" thing is for the whole season which seems rather unfair to me...

Right, the 2 front row positions are the only 2 locked in positions for the Daytona 500. I guess I should of been more clear.:o This was only the qualification order for the duels. Yes, it can get confusing.:D

The Gatorade Duel which is this Thursday determines the starting lineup for the 500. It consists of two 150-mile races, and serves as a qualifying race for the Daytona 500.

The field is divided into 2 halves for 2 duels. The first half(race)determines the starting position for the inside rows(odd) of the starting grid. The 2nd race(half) determines the starting position for the outside rows(even) of the starting grid.

The top 35 drivers based on previous season points and the top 2 in the front row( if not in the top 35 points drivers) are locked in regardless of thier finish in the duels. The remaining spots are then filled in based on the results of the duels bringing the total of cars to 43.

(60) Boris Said
(10) Patrick Carpentier
(37) Eric McClure
(09) Sterling Marlin

How the hell did Andretti get a #22 qualifying? He had one of the worse cars of the 53 that showed up. McClure had a much better car than him and I expected him to make the show. Glad Andretti was able to make it and hope he has a good season but I feel sorry for Carpentier, Barrett and Villeneuve.

I was impressed with how strong Sam Hornish ran today. He was in the top 10 for quite some time early in the race. He climbed up to 5th spot at one time. Good day for Sam.

Ryan, Lizardfolk, did you watch ?:wonder:

I watched, but I didn't think it was anything spectacular.

The retirement of Jeff Gordon didn't help things. In the closing laps I was hoping for Burton to hold them all off, but he couldn't.

I tend to cheer for the hold hands that were the top drivers back when I first remember watching NASCAR in the mid-90's. Burton, Gordon, Jarrett, etc.

Yeah, it will be hopping for sure I bet. But Im new to F1 so I wont have much to contribute.:o

Overall, it was a good race. Started slow but everyone was feeling out and adjusting their cars. It will get exciting this year. Be a lot of side to side action (3 wide), which is the best !
