This past Thursday, the 23 year old, current and back to back AMA Superbike Champ. Ben Spies told RoadracingWorld.com that he will be given a ride (presumably a/the third bike) on the 08 Rizzla Suzuki RSV at both American GP races this season. It looks as though testing will be somewhat limited, but he’ll get at least one day prior to race-day to feel out the bike. He is under contract with Yoshi Suzuki for the ’08 season in AMA, but has no plans for ’09 written in stone. Although, rumors of him joining a proposed Kevin Schwantz GP team in '09 continue to swirl.

This raises a couple of issues. One, he is under contract with Dunlop through ‘08, and they (Dunlop) currently have no presence in MotoGP. He would be racing on a Bridgestone shod RSV.

Two.. This guy practically owns Laguna. It’s entirely possible he could place very well. We’ll have to wait and see…

Alas, still nothing has been signed officially, and the tyre issue might be the giant hurdle.

Spies would do well to try out MotoGP at this stage. He's in his 3-4th season (??) in AMA and was able to beat out the top guy in AMA maybe ever, Matt Mladin as his teamate. He could try MotoGP now before it's too late and if nothing else he could go back to AMA if it doesn't pan out.

It would be nice to see him raise his bar. He has nothing left to prove in AMA and the only comp. he has is Matt. So for him to challenge others it would be a good move for him. I'm sure he will do well in both races.
