Do you mind me asking what you need to do before a track day? and what sort of costs are involved? I would love to do one here in the UK (silverstone would be a good start.. heh) but i really dont know much about what is involved..

Depends on the clubs, some require a drivers license with three years experience. But no one asked me in the last day.
Register and pay the fee, ranges from 150-250 pounds.
Drive your car as much as you want, or 50/50. (50% of the days)
I am going this Sunday to Snetterton.
If you would like to hire a track car, such as a Lotus Elise, the car alone would cost around 700. Other cars such as Caterham, BMW's, MX5 are popular on track days.
If it's your first time on a track, you might need coaching from some of the instructors at the track. I think 30 pound per 30 minutes or an hour. Full day coaching costs 200-300.
Let me know if you are interested.

Nice! :). Is that your first outing on this historic circuit?

Why are you interested, don't you need to know how to drive a car fast first? ;) :p

That's a regular driver's license right?
So how much does a lap or half day cost? Or I just pay the fee and then I can spend the whole day? And is lap timing included? Would be interested myself, maybe I'll take the two of you on if you're up for it ;)

My first ever drive in Europe, this track day was more lively than the Supercars race in Bahrain.
Yes, public roads license.
There are two type of track days, 50/50, where there will be two groups and the duration will be splitted between them. From 9AM Until 5 or 6 PM. So you will drive 50% of the day.
And there is the open pit lane, where you will have 100% of the duration.
Some track days offer night driving.
This is for track days where you will drive any car you want.
There is the driving experience, where the track offer some cars, from road legal cars to F1, and you will drive them for a short time or few laps. Just to experience the car.
Lap timing is not allowed in track days. (Don't tell anyone that I use it )
Track days are fun and good experience, but it's better to drive a track prepared car in order to push to the limit. Most of the road cars including Porsche, M3, M5 won't handle track driving for more than 30 minutes. Porsche GT3-R would do the job just fine :D
I will drive the same Lotus in the pics for the next track day, and I might drive an old M3 in March.
I think we should all gather for a track day at SPA :finishfirst:

What do you mean they won't handle track driving for more than 30 minutes? Do you mean that parts will need to be replaced? :wonder:

Definitely! Bring it On! :D

Many things would be worn out, such as brakes, clutch, oil.
Should we go for this http://www.autotrackdays.com/Product/8/spa-grand-prix-26th-may-2008.aspx :finishfirst:
Would love to drive on Spa someday, I heard it's one of the coolest tracks to drive on.
Maybe in summer I will arrange something.

It's funny that timing devices are not allowed and they keep saying it during the registration and briefing, but all the cars are running with their timing GPS antennas sticking on the roofs.

I heard that Snetterton is a nice track. Good luck with that!
Do you need to prebook for coaching? or can you just show up and find an instructor on the track?
I would quite like to use my car so hiring one is not an option. I would need to change a couple of things before it goes on track but it's getting there... alsogive it a good service to make sure everything is ok.. so I'll be looking to do it in the summer when I have a bit more free time.

If you are looking for few coaching sessions, you will be able to just come and decide.
If you need full day coaching you have to arrange it when booking the day.
The problem is booking track days, they are usually fully booked two months in advance.

I'm sure your car is alright as it is :p. People probably show up in Polos and Fiestas  ;). Gives you a chance to win for a change  :p

My name is not there :S
Last track day at Silverstone, 50% of the cars where brand new Porsche GT3-R and GT2. Many Porsche Cup and other race spec cars.
There was one of those old cars, the one you get in and out of throw the windshield or somehting like that, when ever he take a turn, it went on three wheels. He pushed it a little hard and flipped the car.
Also there were some Audi and Volvo wagons, they were very fast.

My coach, Malcolm Edeson. Believe me he wasn't scared with me, maybe surprised that I did extremely well. You should have seen him with my team mate. He spent the whole day trying to beat me instead of just relaxing and trying to learn new things. I was more than one second ahead of him in every session, even though I was relaxed and trying new things. Only in the last session I switched to the qualifying mode, and I was only few tenths ahead of him. He had a bad day and had to pay for the Sunday dinner.
Really cool pictures Fahad. How's that Lotus to drive? :)
Well, it feels like a single seater. Very fast in turns and braking, and you feel everything on the track.
It's a good alternative of single seaters. Good car to learn how to balance and use the basic techniques.
Next time I will drive an MR2 or M3, to get close feeling of the Lumina's.
