The 38 year old Aussie has announced that he will be retiring from competitive 2 wheeled racing* at the end of the 2008 WSBK season.

Troy has the 2001 and 2006 WSBK championship titles in his resume, and wants to end the year on a high note.

Win, lose or draw, the plan is to finish at the end of the year. You never know what could happen, but that's pretty much the decision…
Honestly, I'll be finishing racing at the end of the year - well, with motorbikes anyway!
I still feel good on the bike and I've had a pretty good run. I'd like to finish on a high. I don't want to people to remember me going on for a few years too many..
If I don't win, but finish say third or fourth, but have some good races, that's not a bad way to retire.

After finishing fourth last year on a Ducati that can only be touted as outdated, he stands a better chance IMO on the new 1098.
He’s a real character and a great competitor. Good luck Troy!

*Hmmm I wonder…
