And while they are at it, get rid of the standing starts as well.:D
Why do you say that?

I just dont like standing starts. You risk stalling the engine and they just arent as exciting.

You risk everything at standing starts = excitement.

I guess Im just different than most here. I like it when the pace car rolls off and everyone starts accelerating and the green flag waves. :D

Yes, yes you are...
Ohhh a green flag!
That doesn't sound exciting at all to me.
Didn't you ever play red light-green light as a kid?? Green light! GO!
Not, 'Ok, everyone start jogging, then when I wave this flag, run like hell'.
No one ever played that:rolleyes:

When the cars line up, the pole sitter has to sit and wait for like forever before the last Minardi/Arrows/Forti/Super Aguri/Midland is stationary and the guy waves the green flag. Then the red lights light up..... that's when the pulse really begins to go bananas. The red lights go off, wheel spin and tire smoke and a mad dash to the first corner.
Rolling starts in F1? NO THANKS!

Seems like that's part of the excitement. Besides, did you see how Massa tried to wedge Kimi? Try these guys attitudes in a far less controlled rolling start. There would be so much complaining etc.
To me, nothing beats those first few turns.

In f1 there is more tension. The driver could false start and lose places in the process.

Yes Dunk, I prefer the rolling start. Here is the start of the Mid-0hio race in 2007 in Indycar. I was at this race. It was scary. I didnt like the mishap at the beginning with Marco flipping and Danica running off course.:(

That's the worst rolling start I've ever seen.
Not even the front row was lined up.

Aight aight, this is the Malaysian GP thread not a rolling vs. standing start thread. Maybe a nice Sr. mod will bust this out into it's own thread....

From a standing start of course.

Each series has the right start.
If Indy Cars ever got to the point of being the rocketship F1 cars are, (from and excelleration stand point), I would like to see the standing start on road courses, but I don't think standing starts would work on ovals.
The beauty of each series is the unique parts, as someone who likes both types of racing.

Now I'll tell you what's fun to watch!! Those old starts where the drivers sprinted to the car and dashed out of the pit! Oh ya.

My opinion on this debate. In Formula1 standing starts are the only way to go. Rolling starts are good for ovals and race that last less than half an hour.

During a rolling start, the cars come to the first turn at higher speed, which is more dangerous than if they started from halt.

That would be on a track with a lot of slow and fast corners though. On an oval I don't think it matters
