DirecTV Sponsors the IRL

Looks like DirecTV will be the IRL Series' sponsor. They finalized a $3million dollar deal with the IRL. It should be called the IndyCar Series in DirecTV HD. Since this year's races will be telecast in High Definition. This deal should be announced down in Miami where they are racing this weekend.
Pretty cool.

Also Coca-Cola and Frank's Energy Drink are supposedly in the works of getting a sponsorship in the series. Things are looking up. This series is going to grow big in the next couple years I believe.

You left out an important consideration. If Direct TV get the rights to this series (not sure what their (the IRL) Broadcaster contractual obligations are:wonder:),you can kiss the broadcasts on regular cable good-bye. Maybe..

Yes I thought of that at first but ABC/ESPN own the rights to the coverage and Im sure the contract protected that. They wouldnt give that up because more people have access to watch ABC/ESPN on cable than people that have DirecTV to watch it on there. Im sure they know this and if they are trying to gain viewers, they wont or shouldnt screw with the majority of television coverage that viewers have.

I bet it will be something like what I understand NASCAR does.

As I understand it, they have several different channels that broadcast the race from the car of your favorite driver, or something like that.

I bet there will be a bit of DirecTV ads on regular cable etc. They sponsor other stuff and it's still on regular tv. What's the point of advertising to customers you already have.

Yes Killernut, DirecTV is the series sponsor, very similiar to Sprint for NASCAR.
