The IndyCar Series will limit the number of participants at all tracks this season: 33 at Indy, 28 at all others except Milwaukee, Richmond and Iowa, which will have 26.
Im thinking that along with this news and the new qualifying procedures we could see some bumping happening in the future. Qualifying is getting exciting again.

that's odd, why would they limit the firld to 26 at those three tracks and not at the others. i'd like to see 33 at all tracks, to keep things simple.

They may be smaller "short" tracks making the crowding an issue. Seems like a 2 car diff. isn't going to do much though???

The limits were set due to the merger obviously. The short ovals (Milwaukee, Richmond, Iowa) will have the fewest cars. They look at this as a safety issue.

That is good news, I agree. I hope that it works.

Why not Nashville? Isn't that a short track?

No, Nashville is nearly a mile and a half oval track. (1.33 to be exact.)

I thought the limitations had to do with pitlane space at some events... thus this difference depending on the track.

I would say it's more because of the T.E.A.M. money disbursements.

At 1.2 million per car, they would want to have a cost ceiling. IMHO

I think DR and M. Beer have it right. I think it's down to Pit size and track capacity. You don't want 50 cars on a 1.33 mile track......or do you??? Hmmmmm. :lol:

The only series that can get away with that is NASCAR. They have 43 cars running on a 1/2 mile track.

Ya...that's not a good thing for open wheel cars...
