I was just curious what peoples feelings were on the things that I saw at long beach this past weekend, that are drastically different from the IRL rules of today.

Standing Starts?

I a huge fan of this on street courses only. I just don't like rolling starts on street courses. It is more excitement, and it results in more exciting starts.

Power to Pass?

This seemed gimicky to me. I know that Scott Goodyear was a huge fan of this, but I don't like it. I don't know how it would work on ovals, and even on street races, I fail to see how it adds entertainment value.

Timed Races?

Again, I don't really like this idea. I like knowing how long a race is going to be. In fact, I wish the IRL would eliminate this made for TV rule, that it is an either or.

Another thing that has nothing to do with Champ Car, but I just will keep beating my drum, they need add tire warmers for "cold" weather races. Marco Andretti, whom I don't even like much, got blown up on lap one for something as dumb as cold tires. Should he have known better? Yes. Was the result needless? Yes. Would have the race been better had he not gone out on lap one? I think so.

Former Champ Car fans, let me know if you saw a difference that I didn't see.

**** Note: I know that the Panoz looks better, but looks are for girls. Also I have been lead to believe that the chasis could not stand up to the type of colissions that would take place on ovals so that is not a change I would consider for safety reasons.

I think that the current IRL rules are good for ovals and the CC rules are good for road courses. You aren't the only one that thinks CC rules and options have something to bring to IRL. There are some things like P2P that could go for both types as well.

As far as the 2 chassis goes, I think that what the IRL should consider (and this may have been what Ryan was saying) is that while the CC chassis may not be right for ovals, it have been working great on the road. I personally think that IRL should use one car for ovals and the other for road courses exclusively. That gives you both chassis options and it gives you the best car for the conditions. It also allows you to runs a certain type of package for the road and one for the oval without there being any sneaky stuff. Turbos, P2P, etc. somehow making their way on the oval when they shouldn't be etc.
