I read this article here: http://www.torontosun.com/Sports/Columnists/McNulty_Dean/2008/04/03/pf-5181061.html

and it hints that corporations are no longer willing to sponsor NASCAR anymore. What exactly prompted this article besides a few "major" teams starting to fade. Petty Enterprise has never been successful in recent years anyway. Wood in all honesty has just barely clinged to the "full time" list of competitors. It also views Villeneuve's "inability" to obtain sponsorship as a bad omen for NASCAR.

Is NASCAR really going down after rising right around Montoya's rookie season? Or is the article just an overreaction?

I think NASCAR will continue to be strong. There might need to be other teams winning to keep it that way but NASCAR is here to stay....unfortunately.

I don't think NASCAR's going anywhere. I've been to a few races and the fans are pretty passionate. I suspect as long as tickets sell, NASCAR will continue to prosper.

Isn't that contradictory though? With a solid and growing fanbase, super ticket sales and media coverage, why would NASCAR be declining? At this point I disagree. It remains the most popular racing sport in the United States.

Stock cars in itself are rising in popularity in the States. ARCA is rising in popularity as well.

TV ratings are up. Sponsorships are down slightly due to the sluggish economy. I think it's media propaganda. The series is fine.
