The fastest lap ever recorded by a motorcycle at Assen gave Casey Stoner a third consecutive pole position in preparation for round nine of the MotoGP World Championship, continuing his outstanding performances of the past seven days.

The Australian was in a class of his own in the first practice sessions for the A-Style TT Assen, but qualifying saw him having to dig even deeper as his two biggest rivals upped their game and lowered their times. A 1´35.520 lap nearly a second quicker than the existing pole position record eventually won out for the reigning World Champion, gunning for his second victory in seven days.

It looks like both tyres are very competitive again and the qualifying time from Stoner is closely followed by Rossi and Pedrosa with Lorenzo not too far behind. It's going to be a close race.

Rossi's main goal is to stay in front of Pedrosa. Stoner is not a threat yet as long as Rossi finishes closely behind. :thumbsup:

Yeah, that's right. Unless Rossi and Pedrosa have a dnf, Stoner can't make up the points.
But as you say.....it makes for a good race!
I'm a bit surprised Hayden & Edwards are not up there too.

Too bad for Rossi but at least he took 5 points.

It doesn't look very good for Yamaha now that very Ducati is working very well now and Honda with their new engine.

Frustrating for Hayden, but the Texas Tornado's not complaining!
The 250's two strokes out ..600 4 stroke in...what do you reckon about that?
I have two thoughts..
1. makes it a bigger step up from 125's
2. Riders going from 600's to MotoGP will be more at ease now,

Apart from Rossi, Stoner and Pedrosa, most struggle for a couple of years at least.
Will be interesting to see what happens.

He's suggesting doing away with the 250's (that are 2 stroke motors) in the GP for 600cc bikes (which are 4 stroke) like in WSBK and AMA.

Personally I don't care for the idea, for the very reason he mentioned. The 600's nowadays are just too close in performance to the 880's:stop:

4 strokers are cleaner burning as well. Idk if the environment has anything to do with it though. I think a 600 class will be good for MotoGP.

And back to Stoner. Great race for him (Assen). Hard to believe Rossi lost it and took someone else out and not the other way around. That puts Pedrosa out front and leaves the championship wide open. Hope Stoner benefits from that.
