Welcoming thread needed?

I have a feeling that the forum is still missing something for new people. its sometimes awkward for someone new to just start to post in the middle of a forum surrounded by a bunch of people who've been around it for a while. So why not have a Welcoming thread where people can introduce themselves and have a look around. Besides its alot easier to get to know people that way. Would make a lot of newcomers feel more comfortable, i think.
