    106 MPG Air Car

There is a new car on the horizon coming to the U.S. in 2009-2010. It
s powered by compressed air. The car is capable of reaching 96mph and has a whopping 75hp!!

the Air Car's engine are pushed by compressed air rather than gasoline combustion, an idea developed by F1 race car engineer Guy Negre.

It's great to see these advances in using alternative energies in cars. The idea of using hybrid technologies is a smart compromise until the day where alternative energy can really fully replace gasoline (not just in performance and reliability but also in availability).

How would one of these cars set you back ? also what would happen if you ran out of air ?

What do you mean by 'set you back'?

That's why it's a hybrid I guess. If you run out of air you have your fuel. But the question is also whether you need a special type of air or whether you can pump 'regular' air in yourself

It means how much would it cost you

I saw this on Discovery a while back. It just needs simple compressed air. Obviously for the fuel application you'd need a certain percentage of O2 but nothing more than the air we breath. Compressors are relatively cheap, and you can fill from just about anywhere given the right adaptors.

The tyre fill at the place you get your fuel is essentially compressed air

So could you put up a compressor in the front of the car that somehow produces more compressed air than it needs energy to produce? Now that would be key, because then you would never have to stop

HA! Brilliant! Of course! You should be the first to try that! Just don't go to far
