Riding Bikes Just Isn't As Common as It Use To Be

I can remember when I was around 11 or 12 years old and I rode my bike for hours everyday. I lived right in the middle of town and I went everywhere on it. It wasn't just me though, because most of my friends rode their bikes too. Now, I never see kids riding bikes anymore. What has happened that kids don't enjoy bike riding like they used to? I guess it must be the age of the video games that has taken over.

I don't think it's just the video games. I think it's part safety. This is a different and dangerous world these days. People question parents who let their kids ride around like that on their bikes.

That's very true Rainbow. It is a whole different time and age now. It is sad really that we don't live in a safer world that children can be children and not worry about the dangers out there.

I am proud to report that the kids in my neighborhood ride their bikes all the time but just in the neighborhood. The kids behind me even play in the yard ALL day!

I remember riding my bike almost every day when I was young too. My kids rarely ride theirs. In their defense we live in the country and do not have neighborhood roads to ride around on.

I wasn't much of an outdoorsy girl when I was a kid but my husband grew up in the country and he and his friends rode all over the place. Of course now there are a bunch of houses where there used to be fields.

That is great, speedqueen. I know in the town where I live you rarely see children outside playing in their yard. Most homes have huge privacy fences around them.
