    The Cost of Champ Car

I found an interesting article on the cost of running a Champ Car team. The figures are minus crew and engines but are close. You also have to account for the driver salary. It's funny that you can run a whole Champ car team for a year for near what Sato makes as an F1 driver (at #10 on the pay list).

    Rolling Chassis: $450,000 (x3) incl. 4 wheels/car
Engine: $? Leased for the year and rebulit by mfg. at no addtl. cost (x3)
    Wheels: 10 sets/car at $1,500 (x20) rear, $1,000 (x20) front (x3 cars) $150,000 total
Tires: 7 sets at $1200/set for each race and 12 sets at 500 mile events for over $150,000 total
    Parts: $500,000+
    Transporter: $500,000 (once multi-season)
    Crew/Driver: ?? Varies.

Total: apprx. $3 million but most teams run between $5-10 million/yr.

And still they can't fill the grid.

I have talked with teams and the figures are different. About 3 million to 10 million will get you a seat.
