No offense taken MBeer. We all have our opinions. But I disagree with the fact that the IRL doesnt have bragging rights on TV coverage, it does. It is a stronger series right now, that cant be denied.
I dont want to see ChampCar die but it either has to unify with the IRL or get new ownership.
You are right, the broadcast of ChampCar races is not good. That does need an improvement if its expected just to survive.

But as it is now, it cant survive. You have teams who rely on the series to front their money, which is not good. You also have a pool of drivers so to speak and the teams get the drivers handed to them. So this is another bad thing for sponsorship.

What do you mean by that. Many series have drivers that change teams as those drivers are proven to be skilled where as noobs may not be. Maybe I missed what you mean.

As far as IRL references, keep in mind that while this IS a CC topic, IRL is it's competition and IRL seems to be leading the pack as far as US open wheel goes. It is perfectly understandable to reference the differences since one seems to be doing better than the other. Neither is doing so well that it can claim any ground on NASCAR and F1 popularity though.

I think the correct answer to the question of how to save CC is all of the above. Sponsors, Coverage, Series merger, and interrnational exposure are ALL required and none more than the other.

The low TV ratings are of course a disaster, and like M.Beer and other members have pointed out, it is a missing component in a successful growth equation.

I am not aware of the exact numbers in terms of how many people follow an average Champ Car race. Would be interesting to know, and compare to more popular forms of OW, like Formula 1. In 2005, some 50 million people tuned in to the Canadian GP (albeit worldwide).
