I just read that article. Be pretty cool. More competition, sponsors, and more money. It would be a good move for all. Looks like the main holdup is the date conflict between the Twin Ring Motegi and the Long Beach Grand Prix.

awesome news. but 2009 seems more logical. Racing fans would lose lots of good race; Toronto, Mexico, 3 Europe, Mt. Tremblant, Road America, Laguna.
Agreed. Something about this seems off... it's too rushed and doesn't seem very well thought out. If this was in the works, it should have been worked out and settled in 07 so the combined series could test and train together properly before the season begins.
One scenario comes to mind; Neither side has enough teams/drivers to answer the bell in 08, so merging early is a necessity. (rumour is that Walker had already hopped the fence taking Will with him, so CC would not have enough cars)
Who knows what's going to happen. Logic says that they should complete their individual seasons in 08, while openly and very publicly planning and working out the details for a Unified series in 2009. (complete with new chassis and new unbiased leadership) To merge over night and drop 8 events from the schedule will do irreparable damage to the relationships with promoters, sponsors and fans.
Let's face it, no one on the CC side is going to watch those Dallara's. Anyone who thinks that is a fool. Hell, they're a joke on the IRL side.
Our car is sexier and faster and was designed to add an oval package to it.
Hopefully the factory is gearing up to provide the unified series with a boat load of DP01's (or 2's by then) in 2009

Agreed. Let 2008 un-fold as it is now... loan dallaras at a good price for indy ... or even maybe unify a few races for the season...and prepare all season for the unified 2009 season with 20-22 races.. 30 cars.
Tough to top what's already been said
I have to agree as good as it sounds, it's VERY hasty. And I'd hate to see them drop all those races (some of which I personally look forward to the most).
I don't understand how this could just come out of the blue like this without any sort of planning or structure to ease the transition into a well thought out '09 seasonI hope this doesn't blow up in everyones faces...

Yeps, sounds hasty for me too. 2009 would be more realistic for the teams. Did I understand right that teams are going to use different cars on different tracks? I understand that CC's are not designed for ovals and vice versa but it sounds stupid to me. Rather wait for 2009 and create whole new car that suites both track types....
