Exclamation The nightmare that the monster Driverdb is becoming

A couple of questios for the esteemed wisdom of the forum.

At Bathurst this weekend Team PWR & TKR crashed before quailifying and car 15 was qualified by Rick Kelly but Paul Radisich crashed in Saturday warm up and the car was withdrawn before the top 10 shootout, Rick Kelly swapped to car 16 which Paul Dumbrell ran in the shootout and David Reynolds is left without a drive.

The question is for a drivers stats when would they be recorded as being part of a race: a/ when the car is scrutinered b/ when each driver practices c/ when the car is qualified d/ when each driver turns a lap in the race.

The records will show that car 1 Garth Tander/Mark Skaife started from pole (presuming that they have no problems between now and race start)

Garth Tander set the time in the shootout

Also at the Nascar Sprint Cup race this weekend Jimmie Johnson got pole via driver points after qualifying was rained out.

The question is for a drivers stats when is a pole position recorded. In these days with all the computerised data Garth Tander of these three would be eligible as he set the time but how do you tell with stuff from way back when the records may only say who was on the pole not how it was archevied.

    Let the discussion commence.

Yeah, it's like they all have it in for me -- trying to make things complicated.

The most important rule of Driverdb poles is that a pole only counts when it has been awarded as a result from a timed qualifying session. That leaves out any poles handed to drivers from lottery, championship points, previous race position, reversed grids and fastest race laps. If the driver who qualified on pole for some reason doesn't appear in the race he should still be awarded with the pole position as long as he wasn't disqualified for anything during the qualifying session.

If it's a shared drive the person who did the "winning" qualifying lap should get the pole position, and the person who just went along for the drive shouldn't get it.

But as you point out with the V8's there are many cases which cause headaches.

Regarding older results, I think it's best to leave out the poles if we aren't sure if there was some sort of qualifying session involved.

As it was Team TKR limped thru Sunday morning warm-up and started from pit lane only to retire shortly after.
