    Driver of the Year 2008

To prove I'm not dead I'll start my first thread in a long long time.

It is now time to nominate drivers for the 2008 Driver Database Driver of the Year! The nomination process will be on until the 10th of December when the voting will start. The ten drivers with the most nominations (within reason ) in each category will then be up for voting.

The categories are the same as last year:
    1. Driver of the Year
    2. Young Driver of the Year (born >= 1987)
    3. Open Wheel Driver of the Year
    4. Stock car / Sportscar / Touring Car Driver of the Year
    5. Karting Driver of the Year
    6. Surprise Driver of the Year (who performed better than you expected)
If the only driver you know is Felipe Massa, Lewis Hamilton or Danica you may leave some fields blank.

Here's where the nominating action is:

    Over and out.

Hey Driver, is that Danica comment for me ??

    I still voted for her.

No doubt Jimmie Johnson should get driver of the year. This guy won the NASCAR championship 3 years in a row now.

Of course you did, she could crash in every race and you'd still find some way to spin her as the best.

And, this vote is for driver of the year, not driver of the last 3 years.

Well Ryan for driver of the year I was thinking of 4 drivers in particular.

3 of them were in NASCAR..

    Jimmie Johnson - 7 wins
Carl Edwards - 9 wins (plus he was 2nd in points in both sprint cup and nationwide series)
    Kyle Busch - 8 wins

Scott Dixon - IndyCar - 6 wins -5th driver in series to lead more than 2,000 laps.

These guys all had phenomenal years and cant be overlooked. They need to be recognized for thier achievements. The reason I chose Jimmie is the fact he had a great year, not only winning the championship but for making this year, 3 in a row. That was the feather in the cap to sway my vote his way.

How about Sebastien Loeb? 9 wins out of 15 races this year in WRC and 5th consecutive title?

    Well, I just had to.

Regarding Jimmie Johnson and the rest of the NASCAR guys - they might have a tough challenge in the voting, eventhough around 50% of the Driverdb.com visitors are Americans - F1 is king in the nominations so far. KING, I tell you.

There are actually more nominations on V8 Supercar drivers in the Stockcar driver category than NASCAR at the moment eventhough Australians only account for about 1% of the visitors. Don't know what the Americans are doing.

And as for Sebastien Loeb - eventhough his Red Bull test days - rally isn't covered at Driverdb.com so he's disqualified.

But, nominations are one thing - voting is a whole different matter. Last year I had about 20 times for voters than nominations and I'm up to around 500 nominations so far this month so we could be in for a pretty massive voting process as this time I'm actually going to promote it a bit more than I did last year.

Sounds good Driverb. This is the year for a good voting turnout everywhere.

I hope you get a lot of votes. Keep up the good work.

But yes, it does for some reason seem that the NASCAR and IndyCar drivers get left out, overlooked or not high enough votes and Im not sure why.

With Scott Dixon top dog in IRL this year maybe the vote will go his way.

The Kiwis & Aussies will back him so just need the Yanks & Canuks as well to vote that way, we might have a big enough block to out vote the Europeans.

Scott Dixon is another good choice for driver of the year. Let's not forget he won the biggest race of the year.... The Indy 500!

I'm guessing that everyone is voting their favourite drivers in those series and the votes spread too much.
