    Istanbul F1 GP 2008 Discussion

This track has a few of my favorite corners in F1. The multi apex u-turn is my favorite. (At least in F1 2006 and MotoGP games!)

It looks like BMW has picked up on Ferrari's nose idea and will be bringing it to Istanbul. It appears the BMW WILL be keeping up with the development pace of the big 2.

    Good stuff.

This looks like another track that will favor the Ferrari's. Sector one, I beleive, McC will have trouble with like they did with sector 3 in spain, since it looks like a lot of tricky curves. It seemed like they had some trouble with that, getting the down force right. BMW has still had trouble with straight line speed, so that leaves Ferrari as the obvious choice.

If Kovi can't go, does anyone know who would drive for him?

I think Pedro de la Rosa if he's still the backup driver.

Yes De La Rosa is still back up driver and it was only a couple of seasons ago he did the job when Montoya left.

I think Kimi will win turkey this year even though the last few years Massa has owned it.

Although Maranello-based Ferrari insists that the shark mouth-style feature in front of the driver position may not be used at every race this season, BMW Technical Director Willy Rampf confirmed that a similar concept will be trialled in the team's Hinwil wind tunnel in the coming days.
"I am almost certain that it would also work on some of the other cars so we will have a look," Rampf is quoted as saying by Switzerland's Motorsport Aktuell publication.

No pics though. Got the info in F1-Live

Ok I just saw the story and it looks more like they are going to run simulations in wind tunnels etc, it would be close to a miracle if they get it to work already in Istanbul or even go there with something done already. It's not going to be like "lets just pinch a hole here" style thing.

In some cases you would have to design whole chassis again and that's too much work for most of the teams but yeah, I think we will see more of there experiments this season.

Last year Ferrari had a disadvantage because their wheel base was longer than others that gave them problems at slow sharp corners like in Monaco but it gave them more stability in fast corners. Because they a shorter wheel base again i'm afraid for the others they don't have any disadvantage at any circuit now.

I also read the news that not only BMW are busy developing the nose hole on simulations.
And since BMW have simulation computers that can make a gazillion calculations per second I don't think it will take long till they have it tested on a test car, neither for the other teams.

I don't think they need to re-design the whole chassis in order to add the nose cone hole. They need to adjust the spoiler to guide the airflow through the nose hole, and then adjust the nose cone. The thing that takes most time is passing the crash test by the FIA.

the circuit in istanbul is by nature a high speed track, so excpect to see lots of changes in aerodynamics. It should be an entertaining event and hopefully plenty of action.

It will be difficult to predict who has the best package for this kind of track, although i think that ferrari are the clear favourites, we cannot count out BMW & mclaren.

When do mclaren have to confirm their drivers for Istanul ?
