Thread: Moscow Raceway

Does anyone here know what's happening with Russia's Moscow Raceway?

I've read that it was supposed to open next year, possibly with German DTM touring cars. I think it would be an interesting venue for F1.

I thought that the raceway was begun last year. Is it still being built? I don't know that I think it'll be finished on time. Is there really demand in Russia for racing?

I don't tend to think of Russia when I think of racing. I thought maybe it was something the government was starting to get behind. I expect it wasn't a priority before the wall came down.

They definitely get into trying to present strong hockey teams, so maybe they want to make a name in this sport too?

Russia definitely doesn't come to the forefront of my mind when I think about racing. I don't know why they would try to make a name for themselves with it. Maybe they're really desperate?

After doing several searches I can't find in news on the Moscow Raceway earlier than 2008 November. I did find a video clip which gave a driver's view of the course but it appeared to be simulated and not live. It is dated Aug. 15, 2009.

Maybe financing for the project has become scarce in these economic times?

I don't see much of a call for F1 in Russia, maybe a few years time? I don't think it is that lucrative right now to stage a race there.
