    Query over Engine Costs

    Kareem

Is there an issue with Engine Costs??

Just gone to make race selection for Malaysia and get following for engine costs

    Mercedes $17
    Toyota $6
    Renault $5
    BMW $4
    Honda $2
    Cosworth $2
    Ferrari $2

Or is there something you know about the next race that the rest of us don't???

Regards and thanks for your hard work with the fantasy league - looking forward to defending my 2006 crown!

Believe it or not, that's right for Ferrari engines. You found a great pick for the next race!

    Let me explain.
The cost of drivers, engines and chassis is based on average performance of the season to date.

So in this first race, the Ferrari engine average is actually pretty poor.
Check out the race results page.

    Those engines placed 1st, 6th, 14th, 17th, 21st and 22nd

That averages 13.5, where Mercedes engines averaged 2.5 (Ferrari's average is actually worse than honda's so far).

Those back of the pack teams may just keep Ferrari engines cheap. To counter that though, you'll lose a point for every DNF from those customer teams. So a win from Kimi could only get you 7 or 8 points.

Ferrari may just be the perfect points per dollar engine. I know what engine I'm picking for Malaysia!

Think this formula needs refining? That's whole point of last season and this one. I want to perfect this fantasy league. Any input would be great.

Thanks for prompt reply....if it's right, then it's Ferrari engines for me this season (unless something changes!)

That is a tough one. I worry about the DNF's but then again A Kimi win +FL +PP =12pts (engine only) minus a max of 5 if everyone else DNF's still nets 7points. but a Kimi (or any other Ferrari) 2nd gets 5 and so on. However a slightly higher BMW 2nd or 3rd get 8 or 6 with less chance of DNF. Like I said tough choice. I think for $2 the Ferrari is probably a great buy to keep your budget stable and more than likley you aren't going to get 5 Ferrari DNF's in a race.
