Senna retires After Hitting Dog During GP2 Race

Brazilian Bruno Senna, nephew of the late triple Formula One world champion Ayrton, retired from a GP2 support race at the Turkish Grand Prix on Sunday after hitting a stray dog that ran onto the track.
The safety car was deployed after two dogs appeared on the circuit during the race, some three hours before the grand prix was due to start.
Senna, 24 years old and joint championship leader before the weekend, hit one of them. The impact broke the car's front right suspension.
The other dog escaped through an exit gate. The Brazilian, who had worked his way up to sixth place from 15th on the starting grid before the impact, made his anger evident when he returned to the pits.
    Who watched the race?

i watched it. when he came back to the pits he was very upset and angry. i couldn't work out why as he was a few seconds clear of anyone either way so i assumed he had made an error. then all of a sudden there was a dog running down the track so the safety car came out. Then they found a replay of Sennas incident and it was a different dog running along the main back straight and it ran straight into Senna. i would say Senna hit it at full speed as he was a fair way down the back straight. he is lucky it was only the front right, if he hit it square on who knows what injury Senna could of ended up with.

I was watcing the race, in the moment i thought he had crashed with Mike Conway, when he left the car he was saying something about a dog, and i thought he was talking about another driver , then i saw the replay.

Haha , that's funny! The dog was probably killed. Did they have to stop the race?

Yeah the dog was killed and according to Brendon (who flats with Buemi so got the inside knowledge about it) the dog ended up being stuck in Sennas side pod. the race was not stoped but the safety car was brought out until the remaining dog left the track.

It’s quite funny that some dog’s came in between the race, and drivers get stuck.

I don't think it's funny at all! That's terrible! Does that happen often? I can't believe it. How sad. How would the dog have gotten onto the track and into the cars?

How can anybody say that's funny? That's not funny that's horrible and I am sure the driver felt horrible about it even though it certainly wasn't his fault and couldn't be avoided.

I imagine that there was a lot of anger and frustration felt by Senna at that time. Animal lover or not, you put a lot of money, time and preparation into getting ready for a race to have it all end because of some freak accident.

I feel like the track should have been more responsible in preventing the dogs from being there in the first place. It would have saved the dog's life and Senna's race if there had been adequate fencing and/or someone calling animal control since the dogs were "strays."
