    '09 Dream Schedule

Assuming their will be 20 races and only 20; as well as a mix between road racing and ovals what would be your dream schedule. If I were making the schedule

    1) March 14-Homestead (Oval) -------------------Where Unification took place
    2) March 21-Streets of St. Petersburg (Road)-----Why not stay in Florida
    3) April 3-Surfer?s Paradise (Road)--------------We know it?s going to happen
    4) April 10-Montegi (Oval)-------------------------While over seas stay over seas
    5) April 24-Long Beach (Road)--------------------Champ Car Crown Jewel
    6) May 2- Mexico City (Road)--------------------At least weather will not be a problem
    7) May 25-Indianapolis (Oval)--------------------The granddaddy of them all
    8) June 6-Milwaukee (Short Oval)----------------This just seems to work
    9) June 13-Texas (Oval)----------------------------3rd best Indy Car race to watch
    10) June 20-Nashville (Short Oval)----------------Two weeks in NASCAR territory
    11) June 27-Iowa (Short Oval)---------------------Bad Race, but it was sold out
    12) July 4-Mid Ohio (Road)------------------------Successful and Honda Likes it
    13) July 11-Watkins Glen (Road)-----------------Its getting hot, lets head north
    14) July 18-Toronto (Road)-----------------------More North
    15) July 25-Michigan (Oval)----------------------Best Indy car race (yes better than Indy)
    16) Aug 1-Belle Isle (Road)-----------------------Made for Indy Car
    17) Aug 8-Kentucky (Oval)-----------------------I like it because I go to it every year
    18) Aug 15-Edmonton (Road)--------------------Another Champ Car Save
    19) Aug 22-Infineon (Road)----------------------Great venue & you need to race in Cali
    20) Aug 29-Chicagoland (Oval)-----------------How the Championship must end

    50:50 road/ovals

Am I leaving off some races I would love to keep? Sure. Portland, Richmond, Kansas, Montreal, and even Cleveland are races that I think would be worth keeping, but I think with a 20 race schedule, those are the weaker links. I also thought about getting California Speedway, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Charlotte, but those would be hard to get set up at the times where they would be convenient, and keep the diversity that I think most fans want to see this series show.

I tried to get the racing over before NFL Football season. I tried to take into account weather, Travel time, and ease (Staying in time zones as much as possible). I tried to take into account the traditional time when races take place. Finally after Indianapolis there is real momentum in the series, as there is a race every week until the end.

Sorry but I just have nothing to do but day dream while I wait for the season to start. At least F1 starts next weekend

Love it. I would put the 2nd Canadian race after Michigan though. Just for easier scheduling. (Keeping the far north races together). Being in N. America all the time might make it easy enough to separate them though.

You wont have another race in May. The whole month is dedicated to Indy.

That would be a very tough schedule. Almost every race is just 1 week after the one before it.

And it ends too soon. If you only have 20 races spread them out a bit.

As I stated I wanted to avoid Direct competition with college, and especially NFL football for TV viewers. In order to do that without starting in February, (which would be a huge change), some things would need to be sacrificed.

A couple of less days in early May, at Indianapolis, being sacrificed wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, in my opinion.

The series is rushed, but I honestly like that better. I think that a race every week keeps momentum, keeps viewers, keeps people talking, and would keep fans in a pattern.

Every Sunday durring football season I look forward to the game of the week. With an every week race schedule, you can get into a similar pattern.

It's too much, I don't think drivers or teams will be up for it

I am curious why it is people's opinion that it is too much. Isn't that essentially what the NASCAR schedule is? A race every week?

The season is still shorter than NASCAR, and I have a hard time believing a race car driver wouldn't like to race.

I would assume you would rather race than do testing.

It depends on the cost of running all that. I'm sure alot of us are looking at it like the cost of F1. F1 is SOOOOO much more expensive to run (even if all the races were in Europe for example) Also, NASCAR's budget might be a bit higher or the cost lower or both. If IRL could afford it though I'd say why not.

Well, with this 50/50 in oval and road, i think Helio, Tony Kanaan and Scott Dixon have an advantadge

they are very good in road circuits, and also in ovals, the drivers and the teams that just came from champ car are going to have a little bit of trouble in the ovals in my opinion

But yes, the shedule now, is much more interesting for me with less ovals circuits, this year IRL i'm going to watch the fulll season

But the schedule needs to be more spread, it would be nice if 1 week theres race and the other one not, but in the middle of the season in the summer every weekend have races
