2009 ICS SCHEDULE Getting Set ?!

    2009 Schedule Update

Latest from the Grapevine is that TG is doing his darnest in trying to get all this year's races back plus some additions...

Here's how the latest scenario for 2009 looks like:

    1. ??? March 23 - Homestead, FL - oval track
    2. March 30 - St.Petersburg, FL - street/airfield course
    3. April 5 - Long Beach, CA - street course
    4. April 18 - Motegi, Japan - oval track
    5. April 26 - Kansas City, KS - oval track
    6. May 30 - Indianapolis, IN - oval track
    7. ??? June 7 - Milwaukee, WI - oval track
    8. June 14 - Ft.Worth, TX - oval track
    9. June 21 - Newton, IA - oval track
    10. June 28 - Edmonton, Canada - airfield course
    11. ??? July 5 - Nashville, TN - oval track
    12. ??? July 12 - Watkins Glen, NY - road course
    13. July 19 - Toronto, Canada - street course
    14. August 2 - Lexington, OH - road course
    15. ??? August 9 - Sparta, KY - oval track
    16. ??? August 16 - Richmond, VA - oval track
    17. ??? August 24 - Sonoma, CA - road course
    18. August 31 - Belle Isle, MI - road course
    19. September 6 - Joliet, IL - oval track
    20. September 20 - Surfers Paradise, Australia - street course
    21. ??? September 27 - Recife, Brazil - street course
    22. October 4 - Mexico City, Mexico - road course

There are 14 races that are sure to be on the schedule: Indy, St.Pete, Kansas, Chicago, Texas, Motegi, Iowa, Mid-Ohio, Detroit, Long Beach, Toronto, Edmonton, Surfers Paradise, Mexico City...

And from the 22 dates listed 8 races are still questionable...

And there still are 4 venues that are trying to get on the schedule: Cleveland, Portland, Road America, and Laguna Seca... so something will have to give... we shall see... btw, almost all dates are tentative at this moment... but somehow a 20 race schedule will emerge from all this... ...the saga shall continue...

Rumor has it that TG & Co are interested in going to Brazil next year - it has been reported in many European media, btw.

The location is RECIFE - the capital of northeastern state Pernambuco.

The concepted race would be run through the streets alongside the beachfront (ala Surfers).

But there is a little glitch attached to this fantasy: it's doubtful that FIA would permit a race (of this scale) in Brazil anywhere within six months of their F1 race and TG wants to schedule it sometime in between Surfers Paradise and Mexico City.

So that is an obstacle number ONE ?!

Number TWO happens to be a simple fact that Recife has the highest crime rate in Brazil that puts Detroit to shame. :?

So let's see where will this fantasy take us.

^^ One of the proposed layouts = 1.8-2.1 miles long with 18 turns... supposedly this concept has been bouncing around the City Hall for over a year now and sometime next month TG is to go visit there to ascertain the situation... pretty sure we'll hear some more about this fantasy...

Cleveland Should not stay if Mid-Ohio/Lexington is going to stay. The two locations are about an hour away from one another, and it just will not be good for the gate. I feel the same about Road America and Milwaukee.

Portland, to me, is still the one race I wish would be kept. The reason is there are no other races up in the Northwest, and this would be a good market it seems

Finally I am disappointed because I didn't see MIS on there, and that needs to be part of the schedule.

Dont worry Killernut, this is only speculation and possibilities, nothing is final yet. When the final schedule is released, I will post it asap!

And the reason the IRL didnt run at Michigan International Speedway this year was due to a scheduling conflict with Mid-Ohio.
