hey everyone its nice to finally be on here! ive been waitn like a week for the verification email to be sent. well to start off, one day i was just brain storming what i could do with all the money i will probably hav left over that i saved up to originally buy a sports car (parents wont allow it). so ive decided to just find some POS that runs. after i get one, i will probably be looking at just over $3000 to do w/e with. so i thought...shifter kart! is this really even a good amount of money to get me started in this hobby? id love to buy a chassis and build a kart than buy a whole one. but ive been lookin around, and it seems the best thing i could do is buy a used kart.
i found a book online that gives you the basics on karting so i ordered it. the description of the book suggested that buying a used kart is not a good idea because the technology would probably be too far behind the competition that has much more money to spend. are they really like those little SD cards for camera's, that double in size and change so dramatically in just 6 months kinda thing? how could a couple of years make a difference in a kart?
i could see how the brakes, bearings and maybe an engine rebuild would be called for but is there really anything else that would be setting me far behind up-to-date competition?
oh yea! im in the chicago land area by the way. Algonquin, IL to be exact. if anyone could help me out and tell me places i could go to get better informed would be awesome
