Will the "Big 3" die today?

Today's the day we find out..

    What are your thoughts?

I think they'll be forced in bankruptcy, it's their only real chance at recovering .. regardless of how long it takes.

There was talk about if they went bankrupt then all the suppliers and down the line would go under as well. That and NOONE would buy a car being unsure if the company will be there to supply parts or warranty work. It's a huge mess.

I'm still not understanding how it is a bailout, its a damn loan not just money being thrown into a company a la wall street bailouts. Good news is that at least one of them (Ford) isn't asking for the money right now, just the line of credit for the future if needed.

well most ppl see it as a bailout. I think ppl are afraid they wont see that money again if the big 3 continue business as usual and eventually have no choice to go bankrupt. Michigan is already in bad shape, to have them go bankrupt willl be a disaster for that state. Cant they just sell one of em to Toyota or have two of them merge? They also need some concessions from the UWA. Like they cant bring popular selling cars from Europe to the US because they arent built in the US. they also need to cut the amount of dealership out there but to do that, they need to change some state laws. They really need to revamp the way they do things

Well it seems that a bill is being introduced to the House today for $15 billion in bridge loans to GM and Chrysler (no Ford, so I guess it's not a big 3 bailout anymore). It's expected to easily pass in the House sometime today but there might not be enough votes in the Senate (thanks Repubs) and some Senators are even threatening a filibuster. When the votes come in, its going to be interesting to how those who voted for the Wall Street bailout voted on this bill.

looks like its going to pass. Good on Ford not to ask for the bailout. Once Obama comes in, he really needs to reform on how Detroit does biz.

Should have realized it was in trouble when we have Senators speaking like this on the Senate floor (granted it was yet another Repub involved in a sex scandal).
