Is George W Bush the worse American President?

Obama is 40 something days away from being sworn in, so I figured Id ask the question. Will he go down as the worse President in US history? Is there any bright spots in his presidency? I think he handled the 9/11 aftermath quite well but downhill after that. Katrina, wire tapping, Iraq, bailouts, economic crash, divided country, torture, Russia and Iran bolstering, war on science, feel free to add to the list...lol

If he isnt the worse, who is? Truman? Nixon? Carter?

Nixon has a bad rap from getting caught doing something that actually had no impact on anything. Truman......hmmmm IDK. And I hear Carter was horrible but I have no idea why. Either way I can't imagine anyone could be as bad as "W." Getting us in to Nam was pretty bad and those presidents not getting out quick ranks pretty high though.

Carter brought a lot of new ideas to the Presidency. He was in favour of limiting arms, spreading human rights, environmentalism and so on and so forth. Basically everything Reagan was against.

Carter was ahead of his time.

well Carter had the Iran hostage situation and a horrible recession. Reagan did a pretty good job with the soviets. Truman had a horrible congress and dropped 2 nukes on Japan.

I have to agree with you on this one. I've studied that decision and in reality there wasn't really any other course of action.

George W. Bush is not the worst president. I have to do some thinking about who I think was worst. Carter was bad. He screwed up with Iran.

President Reagan wasnt near the worst. Yes, spending was high but the economy was good and he had great ideas, morals, etc.

I just think that he might have gotten a bad rep after that. I mean after getting out of office Truman was one of the most unpopular presidents in US history but history has shown him to be a good one. Im just trying to get into the mind of the ppl back then as in why they hated him so much. I know pp hated congress and he might have gotten a bad rap because of that. In fact, he ran his second term against congress saying he was gonna throw the bums out.

Reagan had a terrible recession on his hands but ended up putting it back on its feet. He mostly spent all his money in an arms race with Russia, basically building up so he could eventually build down. Like him or not, Reagan was a transformational figure in US history. The conservative movement is Reagan, I do however think it went to the extreme right under Bush.

Carter might have been bad with Iran and the recession but not sure if he could top Bush. If the dems had a better candidate in 04, they would have won. Kerry wasnt a strong candidate.
