    Spending life on the road

I love my car but I wonder if I can bear to spend most time in it. I am always amazed how some people (taxi, truck and bus drivers) can live that way, spending most of their life on the road.

Hey, it's a living! They probably can't imagine spending most of their life sitting behind an office desk or some other type of career. I agree it's not for everyone, but I could see myself being a taxi or bus driver before becoming a cross-country truck driver.

My brother is a bus driver and on most days really likes his job. He drives at different hours, but usually has to work through at least one shift of rush hour. He simple states, if he has to be out driving through rush hour, at least he's getting paid for it.

I used to work as a full time musician and I had plenty of daily commutes that could be an hour and a half or more, as well as having to travel to weekly gigs that could take a trip of eight hours.

Sometimes I'd get books on tape out of the library.

ToyotaGrl is right. It's their chosen profession and drivers will not be doing this job if they don't like it. I'd like to be a truck driver someday with those big trailers behind my truck. But I guess I will be stuck with my current line of work which is an office job.

I agree, it's the profession that they chose to do, so I bet they like it. I would not like it, I don't like to be in the car for long periods of time, but that is just me.

I often wondered how long-haul truck drivers can do it.

Yes, I understand that you can do practically anything and bear almost anything if you love what you do. It reminds me of another thread here that discusses about dirty jobs. But I think they do the dirty jobs not out of love.

I can understand why they would love being on the racetrack and traveling on the road if they really loved racing. I could almost do anything over sitting in an office like I do right now.
