    Buying Used

What is your method when you decide to buy a used car? Search the local classifieds, craigslist, ebay? Do you take the car to a mechanic before you buy, or check everything out yourself? I always get a second opinion before buying, personally.

For one thing, always insist of having the car checked out a local shop/mechanic of your choice. If the seller squawks, that car isn't worth it.

I agree, it's important to have it looked at somewhere where they know what they are looking for. Take it out for a test drive and be sure it drives well.

I agree having a trusted mechanic check it over is really the best thing to do. They usually can spot any work that might have been done. If that's not an option, then I would definately start with a test drive and a look at a "Carfax" report.

A mechanic before money, always. I have even brought mechanic friends with me when checking out cars before. If its not tested I have no idea that its really safe.

I would prefer to buy used car belong to someone I know. It's better if I know the car history also. I will also bring a mechanic friend with me to check the offered car before buying it.

It's been a while since I bought a car, but I plan to get a mechanic to check it out.

My brother-in-law also reads a lot of the reports of the later model cars.
