    Driver Illness

In many sports, a participant has to back out if they are sick on competition day. I could imagine a racer pushing it and driving if only mildly ill, though. Are there any regulations against driving while ill? It can become dangerous if the driver doesn't know when to back down!

I don't know! but I would hope there was some kind of rule against driving when you were sick or if you were taking any kind of medicine that could make you drowsy. You could kill someone out there!

If there is I would think it would need to be for something serious. There is a big difference if say you have a headache and then another when it comes to the near passing out stage. I would hate to think they allow drivers into a car for something that serious.

I would hope that the drivers would be smart enough to know that they can't race while they are under the influence of any medication. I am sure there are people on the track that watch closely for things like that.

Nope. Drivers race with broken everything and high fevers and all kinds of ailments. Denny Hamlin won today with an ACL that is painful and he's about to have surgery for. Tony Stewart drove with broken ribs. They have to be death's door to withdraw these days.

That's really disconcerting, Rainbow! I can understand driving under manageable pain (though I would worry about the type of medications they were taking to manage the pain) but what happens if they get distracted even for a second? At those speeds, there isn't much they can do!

I totally agree with you about driving after taking a medicine, as I ever experienced it myself. I took anti allergic medicines before riding my bike, and I ended up hitting a bicycle.

The thing with athletes, including race car drivers, is that they can heal very fast using a machine that makes the healing process faster. They pay huge amount of money to be able to use this machine.

I have to agree though that race car drivers who are not healthy to drive should stay on the bench.

I think that if they are sick enough that they are getting dizzy, nauseous, or light headed then yes they should have to sit it out. How many guys that race are going to tell anyone that they are sick though?
