BMW Tests Engine for 2009 in Spain, Highly Secretive

I didn't know that BMW had plans to enter the WSBK

Jeremy McWilliams took the (covered) engine for a test run on a black Yamaha R6 yesterday. Not much else is known at this point.

From what I can tell, BMW Motorad has gone it partnership in this venture with alpha Technik GmbH, who's been involved with WSBK in one form or another for over a decade. More than likely an in-line four powerplant. Personally I wonder if they'll go with a shaft drive

Alex Hoffman, formerly of the Pramac d'Antin Ducati MotoGP team will be the main rider in the '08 development of the team.

This is great news for BMW

It could be like what they did when they entered back into F1 in 2000. Safe first engine and then a hammerblow to the establishment.

They are bloody brilliant at making good strong engines. It makes sense.

They do have a history of building good engines in Formula 1.

Of course they did have their time of low reliability, but this was often caused by supporting parts to the engine. In comparison to other engines over the season, they have produced consistently powerful and reliable machines and I think their WSBK bid will be successful
