    Sidecars?

I don't remember the last time I saw a sidecar on a motorcycle. I suppose they're not practical.

But I was wondering if there was ever a class of sidecar motorcycles in organized racing - Maybe as a road rally?

Oh yes, I'm sure they still exist in Europe, back in the sixties most of them used BMW twin boxers and were very low to the ground (in french we called them basset hounds) with the sidecar rider leaning way out of the sidecar or over the top of the drivers, I loved watching sidecar races, very spectacular and in order to ride in the sidecar I always thought that one has to be beyond completely nuts
Take a look at the following, but they don't lean out the way they used to

I love watching this kind of races. The person balancing the race vehicle is a daredevil. I think its a qualifications for the rider to be crazy because no sane individual will ride like that.

Thanks for the clip. I enjoyed it!

Thanks for posting the video, oldcanuck,

I can see that it is exciting, considering how much of a part the "passenger" plays.

And I don't think I've ever seen such stylized bikes.

I even remember seeing the sidecar races, but it would scare me something silly. I think regular motorcycles racing are crazy enough!

When I tried to watch your link it said that the video had been removed by the owner. I found another and was watching as one bike came around as the sidecar rider was leaning out and hit him on the bum.

I have to say when I saw a post for sidecars, this was not what popped into my mind. Wow! Talk about racing as a team sport. The passenger really has to really be in sync with the driver.

That is funny Dragstergirl! When I saw the title, I wasn't thinking it was about racing either. I can't imagine sitting in a sidecar on a motorcycle as it races around a track. Makes me think of the old "Herbie The Love Bug" movies for some reason.

Wow I loved it! I cannot imagine doing that. When I read this I was thinking of my parents friends. They have a sidecar on their bike. She rides in it. I know they wouldn't be able to do this! Thanks for sharing!

Those guys are amazing! They are fun to watch especially when they get up like nothing happened. I don't want them to fall down but they are really brave and they jumped up again onto the vehicle even after they have fallen.
